Maximizing Internet Speeds wirelessly with Orbi 6 RBR 760 and Satellites

Hi,

I've got an Orbi RBR 760 hooked up via ethernet to a Century Link ONT fiber that's supposed to deliver up to 940 Mbps. I got rid of the Centurylink modem/router so the Orbi is communicating via PPPoE and VLAN 201 tagging. I've got two satellites RBS 760's one floor above connecting to the router wirelessly. II would assume the router would be the fastest connection since it is hooked up via ethernet to the ONT and it is wired but not wirelessly. I hooked up my computer via ethernet and wirelessly to each point and discovered one of the satellites is faster wirelessly than hooked up to the router via ethernet cable. Metrics are below. Any input on why this is and suggestions on how to improve my speeds on the router and one of the satellites short of hard wiring or moving them around?

Computer to the router via ethernet I get speeds of around 920 Mbps Download and 815 MbpsUpload. Wirelessly I get about 430 Mbps download and 621 Mbps Upload. Seems like a big drop just to use wifi seated right next to the router. I'd like to increase that speed if possible since paradoxically I get better speeds on the satellites.

Satellite 1 located on second floor from router and about 38 feet from other sattelite, I get 472 Mbps download and 413 Mbps upload connected via ethernet and 420 Mbps Download and 410 Mbps Upload wirelessly. Any thoughts on how to increase these speeds?

Satellite 2 also on second floor but a little more directly above router I get 873 Mbps Download and 784 Mbps Upload wired and 723 Mbps Download and 717 Mbps Upload wirelessly. Both are better than wirelessly at router. How come and how can I improve it?

Thanks

Depending upon wireless design and support, most wifi devices, Phones, pads and laptops max out at anywhere from 300-700Mbps due to the 2x2 MIMO they support. 4x4 MIMO devices can seen near 900Mpbs and over. Wire speeds will always out perform wireless.

The same device is used to measure speed over WiFi at all three locations?

Internet speed can vary depending on factors outside the local network.  It would be useful to record several iterations of the test to look for consistency.

What steps are taken to ensure that the WiFi device is actually connected to the closest WiFi unit for each test?

(I'd suggest deliberately turn off WiFi. Wait two seconds. Then turn WiFi back on again and let it connect.)

(The Orbi Attached Devices web page and Connected Devices information on the Orbi app take much longer to report changes in the network than one might expect.)

The original Orbi had a nice telnet command that would report the actual Link Rate between router and satellites. Alas, the AX models dropped that command (and also dropped telnet - sigh).

Yes. The same device was used. A 2022 MacBook pro. I moved next to the router or satellites to connect wired and wirelessly and logged into the Orbi admin panel to verify I was connected to the device I thought I was testing. I agree it took longer than expected or desired to register that I was connected to the device I was sitting next to. I did it twice on each unit and granted it's a small sample size it was consistent over two iterations.

Actually, this is not what the metrics show. Ethernet connection to the router is the fastest of all connections (which it should be).

This remains a puzzle.  WiFi connection to the router should not be slower than WiFi connection to a satellite.  Maybe not any faster, but certainly not slower.  I have no explanation.

The only known method to increase speed at satellites is to connect them to the router with Ethernet cable, which is often impractical.
