Netgear Orbi RBK853: wifi 6 vs Ethernet

I have a back room in my house where I have a satellite Orbi that is NOT wired to the main router. The backhaul is wireless currently. The range is great, so no problem there. My question is, will I get faster speeds by connecting my new Wi-Fi 6 enabled PC to the satellite via Ethernet or just use the Wi-Fi 6? I would rather not run the cable unless it is clearly faster & more reliable. Thanks!

Re: Netgear Orbi RBK853: wifi 6 vs Ethernet

This depends to a large degree on the type of network usage.

Access to internet resources can never be greater than the ISP download rate.

Speed higher than the 'need' might never be used.  For example, playing an internet game requires so much bandwidth and more remains unused.

Access to local file servers would be the same.  Streaming a movie takes what it takes.

I'd recommend an experiment.  A 100 ft Ethernet cable costs under $20US on Amazon.  Buy one and string it through the house.  (I'd avoid those 'flat' Ethernet cables.)  Can you tell any difference?
