Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version 7.2.6.31 Released

NG always seems to post it in the Top Support Articles sections first before putting down in the Download section. Not sure why they do this. Probably more visibility near the top. It will eventually get posted to the Download section.

Was wondering why it still shows .21 until I looked closer and then saw it.  Surprised why Netgear didn't just put it under the download link instead, rather than in an support article section?

Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version 7.2.6.31 Released

My impression is that Netgear Support is a "Work in Progress".  When a person goes to https://www.netgear.com/support/ and enters a model number in the search box, such as "RBR850", "RBK852", etc. this leads to a different page than it did just a few weeks ago.

This page has links titled:

  • Download
  • Documentation
  • Looking to Buy
  • New Product Search

Under those links are "Top Support Articles" that are links to the search criteria, such as "RBK852".  These appear to be provided by a program and are not the result of human intervention.

Whoever set up the Download page for "RBK852" did not update the Download link to the most current firmware.  The database search section finds it, but the Download section is out-of-date.

It's annoying.

Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version 7.2.6.31 Released

For users having problems with there Orbi units after updating to v.31, We recommend that if you have done most troubleshooting efforts to clear the issues seen after loading v.31 and still experience problems, you'll need to downgrade back to v.21 version. RBS first then RBR lastly. It's recommended after downgrading, to perform a Factory Reset and setup from scratch to ensure there no lingering FW from v.31 on the system. Also disable the Auto Update feature on the RBRs web page soon after to avoid the system re-updating back to v.31.

We have made NG aware of the issues with v.31 and have ask them to consider pulling back FW v.31 for all Orbi AX and AXE systems.

Thank you.

Can  you tell me what the issues with this firmware are? In this thread no problems have been reported. I also haven't noticed anything so far, but maybe I am missing something? Thanks!

Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version 7.2.6.31 Released

It appears this FW upgrade issue has been going on for several months. As I write this its June 13 2024. Is there any indication this will be settled by releasing an update that doesn't cause us RBR850's problems?.  I am not interested in spending several hours upgrading then down grading then doing a Factory Reset then.....  I actually don't know what to do after that...

Is netgear just bricking us so we upgrade?  Please advise.  Thanks

The 7.2.6.31 version finally showed up as an update in the interface, so I am comfortable hitting the button now. It seems the success rate appears higher than normal based on the feedback in this thread, so I am also curious what these show-stopping issues are.

Sorry to be late to this thread. My RBR is showing an upgrade from 4.6.14.3 to 7.2.6.31, but while my two satellites are also running 4.6.14.3, they are showing an apparent downgrade under "status" to 4.6.9.11. Is there anything I need to know or do before updating the satellites, then the router?

Manually update the system using a wired PC and web browser, RBS first, RBR lastly:

Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version 7.2.6.31 Released

Has anyone seen and issue after updating to 7.2.6.21 that the RBSs will only clock the ports at 100Mb?  I have done speed testing on my wired and wireless RBSs and they all get the same.  I tested the cable coming from the RBR and it is hitting the 1GB mark.

If you did run into this, did the 7.2.6.31 update fix it?

Not with my system. V.21 is the most stable version of FW.

Did you first update the RBS firmware then the RBR lastly, then probably need to do a factory reset and setup from scratch:

My Orbi router restarted itself second time in the last 2 weeks. Nothing special happened, just lost the connection and Wifi and the router was in the middle of the restart process. Is this a known bug in this release?

Does the front LED turn PINK when this happens?

What is the uptime seen on the RBRs web page for Show Stats under Advanced Tab?

Who is your ISP carrier?

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?

Is IPv6 enabled or disabled?

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?

Does the front LED turn PINK when this happens? -> Did not see it. As soon the wifi went off, I checked the router and only pulsing white was visible.

What is the uptime seen on the RBRs web page for Show Stats under Advanced Tab? -> Uptime is 37 minutes, in line with the reboot time

Who is your ISP carrier? It is Digi in Hungary

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too? -> ZTE ZXHN F6600R
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended. -> This environment is up and running since a year with good quality cables.

How many RBS are deployed? 1 main unit and 1 satellite
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft? 100 square meter

Is IPv6 enabled or disabled? Disabled

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update? Yes

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? -> No, and if you don't mind, I won't do it.

Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router.

Try option #2 first...

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? -> No, and I'm not willing to do until this is absolutely necessary 🙂

The modem is reconfigured by the ISP in a way, that it is just a modem with wifi fully disabled (modem only mode). Meaning point1 fulfilled.

As I mentioned before, this setup with this modem/router combo works well since over a year. Automatic reboots started just recently.

Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version 7.2.6.31 Released

How long has v.31 FW been installed for?

You'll need to try a factory reset and setup from scratch and see if the problem continues.

A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser. https://kb.netgear.com/22697/How-do-I-install-my-NETGEAR-router-using-the-router-web-interface
Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.
https://kb.netgear.com/24089/How-do-I-specify-the-pool-of-IP-addresses-assigned-by-my-Nighthawk-rout...

I would power OFF the ISP modem for 1 minute. Factory reset the router and power it off. Power ON the ISP modem and let it sync. Then power ON the router and walk thru the setup wizard again using a wired PC and a web browser.
Press the back reset button for 15 seconds then release.
https://kb.netgear.com/31486/How-do-I-reset-my-Orbi-system-to-factory-default-settings
Or use the ERASE button on the routers web page to factory reset the router:

You can disable Auto Updates on the RBR.

Let us know if the factory reset and setup from scratch helped any.

Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version 7.2.6.31 Released

So I woke up feeling a bit frisky (and probably still drunk) and decided to hit the "update all" button on my phone.

I sobered up quickly thinking that I once again had managed to brick an Orbi system, but back at my wired computer I determined that the router address was now 172.16.0.1. After a little fiddling I was back in the web interface, faced with a message that Netgear had changed my IP address to avoid conflict with my ISP. Great, thanks Netgear!

I quickly changed it back, only to discover that all my address reservations and device names had been hosed. Excellent. Now I now what I'll be doing all day today.

Other than that, the update seems fine.

Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version 7.2.6.31 Released

So is the 172 address what your ISP modem is using? If so, the RBR should have changed to 10.x something. Shouldn't have changed to same IP address as the ISP modem.

What IP address did you change the RBR back to?

Just curious what brand and model is the ISP modem?

If v.31 works for you, use it. Other users have posted having issues with it and we recommend reverting back to v.21 if you experience problems with v.31. v.21 is the most stable FW version.
