Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version v4.6.7.5 Released

Wow, my memory utilization finally went down for the first time on 4.6.6.11.  Today I'm at 643mb, down from 700mb yesterday and 684mb 2 days ago). I will continue to monitor.  Maybe this isn't going to crash after all!  🙂

Funny you mention that, mine also dropped slightly today for the first time as well.  Odd that they both dropped on the same day after what appears to be a steady climb.  Will post the graph later today.

Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version v4.6.7.5 Released

A long time lurker here, but here's my contribution. Been running 4.6.7.5 on my RBK853 system for 3 weeks. Initially, after updating the router and all satellites to 4.6.7.5, I caught my router rebooting almost daily. After disabling all logging, system uptime is now almost 10 days without any problems. Also, memory consumption has stayed quite low.

I have router mode enabled, ax wifi (WPA3), guest network (WPA2) with full power. Armor, Circle and add-ons disabled. All logging disabled.

If you re-enable logging, does the memory usage go up?

Thanks for asking. I enabled all logging, and the router rebooted after applying settings. Will keep an eye on the stats now.

In the search for unknown processes that could be eating memory, this was hiding in plain sight.

I would suspect it is some form of analytical reporting back to Netgear that I have theoretically Opted Into?

I wonder how we Opt Out!

Does anyone else have an entry on this other than Enabled?

Maybe only seen on this version of FW since this is a pre-release maybe to get some feedback data on this version.

Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version v4.6.7.5 Released

As I was looking around the Debug page on the RBR-850, looking for a potential source of a memory leak, I wondered if there was the same page for the satellites...

Sure enough!  Went to http://192.168.1.2/debug and found it.

I have three satellites in my Orbi Constellation, two are wired and one is wireless.  All are RBS-850s.

Here are the screenshots from their debug pages.

Note that they internally are all labeled as RBS750.

Note that the WIRED RBS' report a hop count of 255

Note that the WIRELESS RBS reports a hop count of 1

Questions:

  • What do the hop counts mean?
  • Why is RBS850 labeled internally as a 750?

Is the first pic a wireless or wired RBS?

Is this hop count value 255 only seen on the wire connected RBS? Possible that the hop count value is coming from the connection to the switch. You might try a direct connected RBS with out the switch to see if this changes the hop count reported value.

My Sats are wired directly to the RBS and I see the same 255 Hop count.

Are yours also labeled internally as RBS750s?

Yes....makes me question the quality control of the Netgear coders.

Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version v4.6.7.5 Released

Ha, just checked and mine also says RBS750 not 850... wonder how long that error has been around since I am still using V4.6.3.16_2.0.51. Incredible amount of bugs, etc so far along into the existence of the RBK852...I am surprised nothing has been officially released since last September.

Also, beta forum is crickets even with the onslaught of reported problems and there have been 3 firmware versions floating around here.

Sure does make me wonder...

Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version v4.6.7.5 Released

Maybe we all bought RBS750s and all they did was invest in new labels and boxes!!!! LOL  How's that for a business model?

Lastly, the fact that downgrading firmware has caused bricked satellites (thankfully I have been able to sideload firmware to get up and running again) and I haven't seen a single forum moderator jump in... It is ashame that such wonderful hardware is stuck with incredibly bad software.

@Chuck_M

Yes both debug pages report RBS750. I'll pass this on to NG. Again. Smiley Frustrated

Checking hop count on both of my RBS850s that are ethernet connected behind LAN switches, Both are reporting 1 hop count.

DRRBS850DebugPage.png

The one in the basement had debug logging enabled and I have disabled that. I presume it would have reported similar memory usage otherwise.

Re: New - RBR850 / RBS850 Firmware Version v4.6.7.5 Released

@FURRYe38

I rebooted satellites and now all are reporting a hop count of 1.  Both wired (2 of them) and wireless (1 of them)

Don't you wish we had a reference guide that told us what that all meant?

Thanks.
