RBRE960 / RBSE960 Firmware Version 6.3.7.5

Enhancements:

  • Improve the stability between base and satellite connections.
  • Improves satellite firmware upgrade stability.
  • Improves satellite UI stability.

Firmware Update Instructions:

To update your router’s firmware, follow the instructions in your router’s user manual. To find your user manual, visit https://www.netgear.com/support/, enter your model number in the search box, and click the Documentation button on the product page.

NOTE: Update the RBS first, then the RBR lastly. I recommend doing a full on factory reset after the FW loads, system is back to ready and a power OFF for 1 minute then back ON has been performed. Use a wired PC and web browser for this. Load the FW on to each RBS web page using the RBS web page, not thru the RBRs web page. Then load the FW lastly on the RBRs web page. Walk thru the setup wizard. You can manually setup the system as well for those who are more experienced with this.

https://kb.netgear.com/31573/How-do-I-manually-upgrade-firmware-on-my-Orbi-router-using-orbilogin-co...

A factory reset maybe needed if problems are encountered:

https://kb.netgear.com/31486/How-do-I-reset-my-Orbi-system-to-factory-default-settings

NOTE: Orbi app or the routers web page may not report seeing new FW updates. NG may not push this to there auto update services immediately and may activate the newer FW update being seen on there auto update services at a later time. User will have the choice to manually update if you want too.

NOTE: The Disable Auto Update feature only prevents ANY new FW from being installed if available. This does NOT prevent the system from checking NG services to see if new FW is available. If new FW is available, this will be displayed as a notification to the user on the RBRs web page only. It will be up to the user to upgrade FW or not.

NOTE: Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200

What else was fixed in this firmware, I find it hard to believe that this is it as it has been more than 6 months since last firmware release? We need better notes for premium products. Come on Netgear!

Re: New - RBRE960 / RBSE960 Firmware Version 6.3.7.5 Released

Saw this new update and found my RBKE963 in hopes to start using it after this update. My old RBK53 is still running solid, but looking forward to get the 963 up and running.

Online update says “No New Firmware Available” for RBRE960 and for RBSE960 stats “ Service unreachable”

Downloaded and unpacked the files. Try to manual update RBSE using RBSE960-V6.3.7.5.chk I get a message “Firmware upgrade failed. Please check your file.”

Did try Edge, Firefox and Chrome on a fresh installed Windows 10, no antivirus or security soft installed. Wired network.

Did anyone update successfully using the files from the link?Skærmbillede 2022-10-28 084327.pngSkærmbillede 2022-10-28 084323.png

Re: New - RBRE960 / RBSE960 Firmware Version 6.3.7.5 Released

Just in case it helps, I had the exact same problem with one of my two RBSE960 satellites. I also found the only option available was to manually upgrade.

The upgrade worked fine on the first satellite (with wireless backhaul) but not on the second (with ethernet cable backhaul). I powered the problematic satellite off and on and then the upgrade worked ok. I then upgraded the router without issue.

So far, no problems noted with the new firmware.

I recently had the same problem as prescribed by other members . I wish netgear would bring more of a solid firmware update and notes because the customer might re push the same firmware thinking its a problem with device .. to turn in for repair.

Be cause historically owners complained about when NG was auto updating systems. We push and pushed to get NG to stop this and give users control. They finally relented and gave users control over this. So you can now disable AU features.

This IS a good thing.

Ok. Mines updated manually and in AP mode as of yesterday with a power cycle after FW was loaded. No Factory resets. Connected to a XR1000 host router to a CAX80 modem only mode. RBS are ethernet connected via 2.5Gb switches to RBR.

Orbi app for Apple and Android are connecting via local network.

Will see how Anywhere Access does.

Speeds are to spec.

System is working so far in AP mode.

I guess I never picked up this up before, but the RBS web page has a 8 series picture icon:

Re: New - RBRE960 / RBSE960 Firmware Version 6.3.7.5 Released

The update itself worked fine (satellites first, router last, no factory reset), but I notice a weird regression with this version.

The RBKE963 mesh system is configured in AP mode, as stations of another router and I've given router and both satellites (internal-) DNS (A) records to access them more comfortably than having to remember their IP addresses. This worked fine with 6.0.3.85 and continues to work with 6.3.7.5 for the satellites, but the router only answers to its domain name with "500 Internal Server Error" (I can access the web interface via its IP address just fine).

router (affected):

http://172.21.253.36/ <-- works fine

http://rbre960/ (relying on the configured search domain) <-- 500 Internal Server Error

http://rbre960.fully.qualified.domain.example.com/ <-- 500 Internal Server Error

satellites (fine):

http://172.21.253.37/, http://rbse960-oben/, http://rbse960-oben.fully.qualified.domain.example.com/ <-- works fine
http://172.21.253.38/, http://rbse960-unten/, http://rbse960-unten.fully.qualified.domain.example.com/ <-- works fine

The name resolution works just fine, I can ping rbre960 and rbre960.fully.qualified.domain.example.com without any problem, it's just the webinterface that doesn't like being accessed by its externally configured domain name.

> nslookup rbre960
Server: router.fully.qualified.domain.example.com
Address: fd01:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx::1

Name: rbre960.fully.qualified.domain.example.com
Address: 172.21.253.36

(configured lan network, 172.20.0.0/14)

This worked fine in the previous version and is reproducible in the current versions of firefox, chrome and edge (including incognito mode of either of them).

Re: New - RBRE960 / RBSE960 Firmware Version 6.3.7.5 Released

Mine updated automatically. I found out only because the satellite names I established were changed back to the defaults. No other problems so far, except several of my devices continue to not connect to the nearest satellite. Nothing new there. For example, my coffee maker is literally 5 feet from one of the satellites, yet likes to connect to the one in the basement, a good 20 feet and one floor away.

Did anyone notice that after a factory reset on this firmware version, the default 5ghz channel is now 40 by default?  The previous default used to be 48.  Any reason why Netgear would change this?

Re: New - RBRE960 / RBSE960 Firmware Version 6.3.7.5 Released

I was told a long time about in Orbi 8 series days that NG found channel 40 worked best. Something I've been using since and haven't had any problems. They seem to recommend not using channel 36, I can't remember the details but they recommended avoiding 36, only used as last resort kind of thing. 44 and 48 are still good channels that can be used if 36 and 40 are congested or as a troubleshooting step.

Thanks, @FURRYe38, for the additional information!  I'll keep it on 40 as suggested.
