I hate to say this, but i am very disappointed about the product and the support of our ORBI RBR850 and RBS850 set.
There is stil no option to select this set (RBR850) on this support site....
Now we have update the devices (manualy) to the latest firmware (3.2.17.12_1.4.14) and now our MAIN network Wifi channel is configured as an WPA2-PSK [AES] wifi is acts as a open Wifi SSID. No password is needed!!!! This while the guest wifi is working correctly with a closed solution.
We rebooted the devices, we downgrade the firmware nothing helps.
Please who has a solution??

I have change the Orbi setup from AP to Router setup.
I connected the satellites with kabel and the sync was taken place.
the open SSID is changed to the secured SSID and all works correctly now.
it seems that in a AP setup, with kabel connected to the satellites, gives some synchronization bugs or give unexpected behaviors.

Re: Open wifi SSID (after upgrade RBR850 to firmware 3.2.17.12_1.4.14)
Try a factory reset on the RBR and RBS.
Make sure RBS is updated first then RBR lastly with same FW versions.

Re: Open wifi SSID (after upgrade RBR850 to firmware 3.2.17.12_1.4.14)
Ensure the RBS are updated using same version of FW as the RBR.
Pleaase factory reset the RBR and RBS and setup from scratch. Setup the RBR first and ensure you set WPA2 and AES Only. Then wirelessly sync the RBS one at a time to the RBR.
If this still fails for you, please contact NG support for additional help and information. You may have a faulty system.

Re: Open wifi SSID (after upgrade RBR850 to firmware 3.2.17.12_1.4.14)
I try all the steps described above. Sadly there is no change.
what I find out is that te Router sends the correct SSID.
when 1 of the 2 satellites is started the SSID is changed to open.
I have try to sync the satellites with and without kabel, various factory resets are done.
still same the issue. So if someone has a good idee...
I am almost on the point to sell this non working WiFi solution!!!

I think you are runing RBR 850 as ap mode or at least the satellites are wired to RBR850, the open ssid happened many times last year for me.

Re: Open wifi SSID (after upgrade RBR850 to firmware 3.2.17.12_1.4.14)
That's correct, the setup is based on AP with kabels connected.
Good to hear that I am not the only one with this issue.
so now I need to know what is the solution for this...

Can you get the RBS to sync correctly if you use the RBR in router mode? If not then I would contact NG support and ask them for help and infornation on this. You may have a faulty RBS is all which needs to be replaced.

Re: Open wifi SSID (after upgrade RBR850 to firmware 3.2.17.12_1.4.14)
I am using the RBR850 as router for two weeks. Before that, I have been using the RBR850 as AP for a year. As I mentioned as long as the satellite wired to the RBR850, you could see open wifi sometime for that wired satellite. I setup the whole system from new(first wirless then wired) I bought two new RBS850 recently, and the open wifi thing happened for these two new RBS850 too. While I changed the orginal RBS850(within RBK852) from wired to wireless, the open wifi thing never happend for the wireless satellite. I sent my config file to NG support, they could repeat this problem, but they told me that they did try setup wired satellite from new, and no open wifi isssue.

Try to change the 2.4g and 5g wifi channel at the same time, if nothing changed, you could try to change the country from US to Europe. Wait for the reboot, and check again.

Re: Open wifi SSID (after upgrade RBR850 to firmware 3.2.17.12_1.4.14)
Hello, I changed the RBR 850 from AP mode to router mode a few days ago. Trust me, you could see the satellite open wifi someday until NG fix that bug, it could happen when the RBR 850 lost internet(while the RBS850 is syncing).-router mode, as long as you do wired backhaul this bug alwasy exists, since no one could check the security type all the time, this may happen many times without noticing.(i mean many users never know their satellite have open 5g or 2.4g wifi)

Re: Open wifi SSID (after upgrade RBR850 to firmware 3.2.17.12_1.4.14)
When i AP mode you might want to set up a static IP address for the RBR and set a IP address reservation ON the main host router for the RBS. This would help in sync problems for the RBS. Glad the problem is fixed. Please mark your thread as solved so others will know.

I have checked my two RBS on occasion and have not seen any OPEN security modes on them.
