I am considering upgrading my Orbi to three AX6000 units. This seems to be the top of the range unit for high speed, reach and device numbers. I was wondering if now is a good time to buy given the model has been our for a while or would you wait? I can’t see anything new announced at CES2021 besides a nighthawk.
The AX has been out for a while now and the firmware has gone through a series of significant updates -- if you need a system, I would suggest to make the move -- but clearly that is based on your requirements.
I for one had previously upgraded from an RBR-50 with 3 x satellites and am very happy with the RBR-850's performance and capability -- and am connected to 3 x RBS-850s. Solid as a rock.
Having said that, there are nightmare stories out there. You may want to let folks on here know the kind of equipment you are planning on connecting to as there may be nuances. Specifically the ISP and model of cable modem etc you plan on connecting to.
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT do you use?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.
Im in Australia. I currently have an RBR50 network of three units. I have a 50mbit connection that will be increased to 100mbit soon. Current speeds are 6MB/s throughout the home. I have a long and narrow block with a double story period home with double brick walls. My number of connected devices are increasing as is my bandwidth so I wanted a modem setup that is future proof in terms of devices and speed, which is why I’m Considering the AX6000. I don’t know if the model number will help my overseas friends - it’s a Telstra Smart Modem 2 with 4G backup connected with fibre to the premises on our national broadband network.
