Orbi RBR750 satelite update without ethernet
I have an Orbi Mesh system RBR750 with two satellites. In the orbi app the are red in the device manager. There RBR750's firmware is current but the two satellites have dashes where the firmware ver...

There we go. Yay.
I'd disable the Auto Update feature to be sure the RBR doesn't get updated from NG. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
Glad you got it working. Please mark your thread as solved so others will know. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

I this case you have to load v4 FW back ON to the RBR since the RBS are probably already on V4 FW. All you need to do is to downgrade the RBR back to V4 FW. As mentioned in my 3rd post to you in this thread.

we’ve exchange 21 messages to establish the need to downgrade the firmware from the router and the satellite. The router still has the newest firmware. There is no way at all that I can see to update downgrade the satellite. 21 back-and-forth replies I’ve said the same thing over and over and over again. Nothing has been upgraded. Nothing has been downgraded the same up-to-date firmware on the router.

Since v.21 would not be applied to the RBS350s, these are probably still on v4 FW so there is no need to dowgrade or do any FW anything with the RBS350s. Only need to downgrade the RBR back to v4 as mentioned already.

I agree. When an RBR750 router is connected to only RBS750 satellites, then all of the units can be updated to the latest firmware (satellites first). When any RBS350 satellites are connected to the RBR750, they will function only if the RBR750 remains on firmware v4.6.14.3
Netgear's implementation of router-satellite communication can lead to a lot of frustration for customers when they are left with no mechanism to solve problems. When the satellite does not connect at all, there is no way to do anything.
This RBK653 "Kit" with one RBR750 router and two RBS350 satellites is obviously defective when it will allow the router firmware to be updated. The firmware should refuse to do so. "Hey, dude. There are RBS350's connected. They will be disconnected (permanently) if the router is upgraded!"
There are other ways a customer could wind up with this odd router/satellite combination. A system with zero RBS350s could get updated and then the customer attempts to add an RBS350 because the Netgear web page says they are compatible. (with no footnote about the firmware requirement).

Okay you guys….This makes more sense…… BUT…. Since i had no idea something like this was even possible [how is this router/satellite software mismatch possible??], i have been replacing modems and xfinity replaced our own modem that i thought was bad, with a modem with built in router, which renders the ORBI INOPERABLE… So, before I can work on the RbR, I have to reinstall the old modem by calling Comcast with the mac address…i am exhausted fiddling with this LAN stuff….and the $200 modem from amazon was used so i am send that back….so….this has been a real drag. But i appreciate you guys being there….with patience…it will be a few hours before i can install a modem only device.

Not correct. The Orbi system functions perfectly well when connected to an ISP router. There are specific applications which struggle with "two routers". (Internet search for "Double NAT") If you have no need for these applications, the Orbi system will be just fine. (Of course, we on the forum prefer that people not have to face the potential that "something could not work" in the future. Thus, we recommend that users have only a single router.) I have operated an Orbi router behind two separate routers (i.e. a "Triple NAT") Getting those applications to work was possible, but a chore.

Having no connection with Netgear engineering, my guess is that someone in marketing said, "it would help a bunch if we had an AX system that was "in between" an all Orbi 350 system (cheap) and an all Orbi 750 system (expensive). Can you make that happen?" Sure. No problem.
Fast forward. Which manager is going to assign a software team to ensure that this "odd duck" combination of products works if the RBR router firmware is updated? (billing engineering time in 15 minute increments.) Answer: "Fell through the cracks." oops!

OMG….THIS NIGHTMARE IS OVER… I HOPE. I reset everything, installed the old modem. and updated the router with the v4FW and it now sees everything.

Since I reset everything and downgraded the router, the router now doesn’t have the solid LED light that it did before and I can’t log into Orbi login so when I reset everything, it must’ve obliterated everything that I had in they are like the double secret question and answer. so what do I do now?
- vdotmatrixJun 17, 2024Guide
I can’t login to Orbi login to turn the auto update off when I go into the Orbi app. I have a Red Square that says something needs to be updated but I know better now. I think I really do need to get the new modem anyway because it’s still not working just right specially with the router light not being solid still troubleshooting.

How did you set up the system after you factory reset it? Orbi app or RBR WEB UI?
Log into the RBR using a web browser.
You have to save off any updates using the WEB UI on the RBR. Can't be done from the Orbi app.
Front LED when OFF is operation normally:

Input same credentials as Orbi app? admin and password?
- vdotmatrixJun 17, 2024Guide
If i factory reset the router is everything wiped as well? I had to change the name of the router from Orbi95 to something else.
- CrimpOnJun 17, 2024Guru - Experienced User
Changing the WiFi settings (SSID/password) affects only those settings. It affects nothing else.
A Factory Reset erases every setting the use has made.
- FURRYe38Jun 18, 2024Guru - Experienced User
Have you been using the default SSID name or have you changed to Orbi95? Usually Orbi## is a default SSID name. Users are recommended to change this SSID name to something else during or after you get the system set up and your on the Home screen of the RBRs web page. SSID name can be anything, make it something intuitive and fun.

Thank you. I changed it right away. The reason I couldn’t log into rbr is because it is still using the default admin password that i cannot change but was able to login that way and switch off autoupdate. Maybe it doesn’t like anything being done on an ipad. I will go over to the imac and try to change this.

Ya, best to use a desktop PC and the web UI.
Once all is changed, setup and configured, Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

interesting, the black dot placeholders in the passwords do not appear.
anyway, i cannot update the password/login stuff in the orbi app. - FURRYe38Jun 18, 2024Guru - Experienced User
