Slow WiFi download, fast upload on RBK852/RBR850

Slow WiFi download, fast upload on RBK852/RBR850

Hello everyone!

I purchased the Orbi Wifi 6 RBK852 router/+1 sattelite system and am having a problem reaching sufficient WiFi transfer speeds.

My download speed is around ~200Mbps, and my upload speed (according to SpeedTest's Windows app ) is ~600Mbps. The direct connection speed from/within the OrbiLogin GUI reports ~900Mbps download...

Firmware Version: V3.2.15.25_1.3.15 (No update available)
ISP/Modem: CenturyLink Fiber, Calix 716GE-I
Router/Sattelite: Orbi WiFi 6 System (RBK852) – Router With 1 Satellite Extender
Location: Router is in unfinished basement, Satellite is probably ~20ish feet away/almost directly above, through 2 floors, next to my bed where I'm testing the WiFi speeds... House is ~2,100 finished square feet.
Laptop/Wifi: Dell XPS 17, Integrated Killer(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX1650s 160MHz Adapter (201D2W)
OS: Windows 10, 64bit

Tests:
My Google Pixel4 will report ~220Mbps download through SpeedTest's browser (Pixel4 doesn't have Wifi 6 capabilities).
I tried playing with the Orbi settings. Enabling, disabling things. Changing channels. Just about anything you can mess with, I tested. Further, my NAS speeds are terribly slow over Wifi (10Mbps), Wired is closer to 130Mbps.

My neighbor's WiFi don't really show up and if they do, the signal is quite poor... No other WiFi devices that I imagine are interfering (Just have A few TV's, a printer, sprinkler controller, garage door that connects via WiFi)

Any ideas?

What Firmware version is currently loaded?

Basements are not recommended location and placement for wifi routers. The concrete and steel foundation surrounding the basement will cause wifi problems.

30 feet is recommended or more in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router

Re: Slow WiFi download, fast upload on RBK852/RBR850

Hi I have the same issue which shows up from time to time.

My PC is wired to the router (RBK850, the main master router) so its speedtest is about 930Mbps download and 813Mbps upload.

I am using my iPhone 12 next to the router via WIFI and its speedtest is about 96Mbps download and 710Mbps upload.

Re: Slow WiFi download, fast upload on RBK852/RBR850

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Is the phone connected to the RBR and not the RBS when speed testing? Turn off the RBS temporarily to test.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, and Traffic Meter, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only.

Re: Slow WiFi download, fast upload on RBK852/RBR850

I have the same problem - but what is even worse - I am plugged directly into the ORBI satellite- which is plugged into the orbi router.  There is no wifi in the chain at all.

Descrption:

Orbi RBK850 router tests out at 450Mbps (using internal test).

Satellite is hard wired to the Router port.

Laptop is hard wired to the satellite

All units running V4.6.3.16 firmware.

Delivered speed - at laptop 10-20Mbps - and erratic with many drops.

If I plug into the wall (dropping out the Satellite) so running directly to the Orbi router I recieve 380-400Mbps.

Effectively the satellite slows the bandwidth to 10% and delivers numerous dropouts making it worse than useless.

Wifi is the same speeds.

@ $USD999 I would have expected something a little better.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and Orbi system been performed since last update?

Is Armor or SPC enabled on the RBR?

You may need to factory reset the system and power the system OFF as well.
