Tablo 4th Gen won't connect to TV via Orbi

I have a Tablo 4th Gen DVR unit attached via Ethernet to a satellite in my Orbi WiFi6 setup on top of UVerse. I am trying to connect to a TCL ROKU TV, which is attached via Ethernet to my UVerse router, which is in turn connected via Ethernet to the Orbi base unit.

Device Manager shows the Tablo connected via Ethernet to the satellite (although it IDs it as an Apple device for some reason). I am able to connect to the Tablo via my Tablo for Android phone app from the same room as the TV, Orbi base unit and UVerse router. But the TV will not connect.

I tried connecting the Tablo directly to the base unit with the same result.

I tried connecting the Tablo directly to the UVerse router, and I was successful (although no antenna, since that lives upstairs with the Orbi satellite).

Any helpful hints? Tablo customer support hasn't been very helpful (although they have tried).

Re: Tablo 4th Gen won't connect to TV via Orbi

The Uverse and Orbi are both routers. They each create a local area network in a specific IP subnet.  When two devices are both connected to either the Uverse or the Orbi network, they can communicate.  When one is connected to UVerse and the other to Orbi, they will have IP addresses in different subnets.  A technical savant can probably create a mechanism for them to communicate, but most of quickly give up.

In general, we advise to have only a single WiFi network in the house.  That reduces competition for frequencies and bandwidth.  There are specific situations where it might be useful to have two WiFi systems, but they are rare.

So, I would suggest disabling the UVerse WiFi.

Connect both the television and the Tablo to the Orbi system.  The Tablo smartphone app may be like most of the "Internet of Things" apps and utilize a cloud connection to communicate between the smartphone and the Tablo.  (For example, can you control the Tablo when away from home?)

Both need to be connected to the same network. Either both to Orbi or both to Uverse

Re: Tablo 4th Gen won't connect to TV via Orbi

I'm not sure I understand.

The Tablo was working fine via WiFi until a few months ago. (Both Tablo and TV were connecting via the Orbi WiFi mesh). Then it stopped.

I tried connecting the TV to the UVerse router, which made the TV streaming connection more stable, but didn't fix the Tablo problem. I tried connecting the Tablo via Ethernet to the satellite. That didn't fix the Tablo problem.

In either case, the Tablo still works fine on my phone, which connects via the Orbi mesh. Are you suggesting I need to turn off my Orbi and turn WiFi back on for my UVerse router?

Clarification. The UVerse WiFi is turned off. The Orbi mesh is running my wifi.

Thanks. The UVerse WiFi has been disabled since I installed the Orbi mesh.

w00t!

I disconnected the TV Ethernet from the UVerse router and reconnected it to the Orbi. Presto!

Thank you so much! That was the one combination I hadn't thought to test

Glad you are back in business.  Looks like a fascinating product.  Wish the channels my family wants to watch were "over the air" (sigh).  Would save me a TON of money!
