information connection to new ISP modem

IMG_20250224_174120.jpgIMG_20250224_174120.jpgGood morning in the area where I live they have installed pure FTTH fiber optics and therefore I will change ISP. I have an orbi RBK 753 system in router mode connected to the LAN port of the modem/router of my current ISP. I attach photos with the current settings of the orbi router. The WAN IP address is taken from the DHCP of the modem of my current ISP, the DNS I have set those of Google. I want to ask, when I get the new modem from the new ISP which also has DHCP and on the orbi router I leave these settings, as soon as I connect it to the new modem the orbi takes the new IP address automatically and everything works perfectly Right? Thanks for the answers.

I don't know Italian that well, however I believe you have the correct configuration on the Orbi system. Automatic DHCP for the WAN side. You can set automatic for DNS or use custom DNS there.

Re: information connection to new ISP modem

Yes, it should work the same provided that the new ISP does not require a user login/password.

Re: information connection to new ISP modem

If your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router.

Try option #2 first...Should help with any odd ball problems you might see in this kind of configuration.

Re: information connection to new ISP modem

Hi thanks for the reply, yes currently on the current modem router of the ISP I have disabled the WiFi and I connected as said the orbi to the LAN port. What I am interested in knowing when I connect the orbi to the LAN port of the new modem/router of the new ISP the orbi gets the IP address from the DHCP of the modem/router of the new ISP and everything works as it does now right? The new ISP does not ask for username and password to access the connection. Obviously also on the modem/router of the new ISP I will turn off the WiFi first. Thanks.

Re: information connection to new ISP modem

Even though you disabled the WiFi on the ISP router, the router is still running on the ISP modem. So would need to either set the ISP modem to bridge mode to disable the ISP router, if it supports it or use the DMZ for the Orbi router. Setting a IP address reservation for the Orbi router on the ISP routers web page so the IP address doesn't change for the Orbi router. Configure the Orbi router for DHCP on the WAN side that is all that's needed for the ISP connection. You'll need to contact the ISP to check on bridge mode support and ISP configuration if you want to put the ISP modem into bridge mode.

Re: information connection to new ISP modem

Thanks for the reply, so I leave the settings on the orbi as in the photos I posted right? Even now on the modem/router of my current ISP I have reserved the IP address for the orbi. thanks.
