orbi router rbr350 setup

Hello Team, I am hoping someone could help me with setting up my orbi? I got it as a present for my father who is a network engineer/architect and he had some trouble setting up his orbi.

so I took the orbi into my hands and replaced it with a deco wifi system which set up seemlessly.

I have the orbi router rbr350 with 1 Satelite.

I pressed the reset button on the orbi to start a fresh...

followed the instructions on the app to a T and even tried using advance setup mode with a PPOE and static IP however when it comes to the app "checking the internet connection" it always fails.

no matter how many time I reboot the modem and router it just does not connect.

(just to clarify to my understanding the router is what connects the internet to the house and the modem is the houses internet network)

any help would be so appreciated, I even went to the orbis web page thing using the IP address and tried to set it up on there but it fails as well.

cheers in advance!

Re: orbi router rbr350 setup

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

Recommend using a PC and web browser connected to 192.168.1.1 to setup the RBR and system.

Re: orbi router rbr350 setup

Hey furry,

The Orbi Firmware Version is V4.20.0.4_3.100.71

Not sure what the mfr but the model of the isp modem is Spark smart modem VRV9517UWAC34-A-SP

The ont is just a standard chorus ont

see pictures attached for the routers and ont.

i have tried setting it up on a web browser however theres not much that can be done, i think i would be better off maybe buying a deco

Re: orbi router rbr350 setup

Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
