Connect AP to one Orbi satellite
I run the latest Voxel for my RBK50 mesh and would really appreciate some help with setting up another router connected to one of the satellites as a Access Point. So I purchases a Flint 2 to act a...

Just to confirm: only one Ethernet cable connects the new router to the Orbi satellite, correct? From one of the RBS50 LAN ports to the WAN port on the new router?
My practice is to assign a specific IP address to such devices using the Orbi web interface Advanced Tab, Setup Menu: LAN Setup, by entering the MAC address printed on the new router label. This MAC address should show up in the Orbi Attached Devices display with that IP address.
It is typical for routers to disable their DHCP function when placed in Access Point (AP) mode. When acting as a 'router', the device will use Network Address Translation (NAT) so that all devices connected to it appear to have only one IP address. (This is what all residential routers do, including the Orbi.) When in AP mode, the primary network router (Orbi) uses DHCP to assign IP addresses to everything connected to this new router.
Aside from the way it appears on the Attached Devices display, does the new router appear to function correctly?
- DalleVDec 29, 2024AspirantYes there is only one cable between the RBS and the new router. From LAN port on RBS to WAN port on router.
Just took a look in the Orbi device list and the new router (that is in AP mode) isn't showing.
The new router is working as it should, seems to be a decent router IMO.- CrimpOnDec 29, 2024Guru - Experienced User
How puzzling.
- The Ethernet cable is connected.
- The router is 'working correctly'
Thus, it must have an IP address.
When you connect to the new router from one of the LAN ports (to access its management page), what does it show for the IP address of the WAN port?
- DalleVDec 29, 2024AspirantOk, so I reset the new router and let it be in router mode. It shows in the orbi device list with an IP. Thing is when I set the router in AP mode it disappears from the device list.
The new routers own LAN ip adress for management page is 192.168.8.1
In the Orbi device list it gets IP 192.168.1.55 connected as router
To access it's management page, i'll have to connect to it through its own WiFi or through lan on my pc. And the management page is working. But when i make it AP it disappears.
Just spotted i thing, if it of any interest. So when connected to orbi WiFi i can get to Orbi management page, but not to the new router. When i connect to the new router i can connect to it's management page, and also to orbis management page.
