Hard wired RBS40 keeps dropping out

Hard wired RBS40 keeps dropping out

in 2017 I bought the RBK40/RBS40 package.  For nearly 3 years the system has worked flawlessly.  About 6 months ago I installed an home office in the back garden and ran a cat 7 cable to the office where the RBS40 now resides and fully tested the wiring; which has been running comfortably at 350mbps without a hitch.

Last week I started getting drop outs, where the app showed that no signal was being recieved by the RBS40.  This is nearly always rectified by re-booting the satellite.

Has anyone experienced the same thing?  is there a fix or is it just a case of replacing the RBS40?

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Hard wired RBS40 keeps dropping out

what firmware is on the rbr and on the rbs?

Have you tried a simple reset and reinstall?

how long is the ethernet run?

do you have more than 1 satellite? any chance of swapping it with another one to test if its truly the satellite or if its the run?

Correction, the main router is an ORBI RBR40.

Thanks plemans

what firmware is on the rbr and on the rbs?

RBR40 - v2.5.1.16
RBS40 - v2.5.1.16

Have you tried a simple reset and reinstall?

I have unplugged the power on both units and restarted.  Which corrects things for a while then the RBR drops out again.  It can be online and running fine for 2 days before dropping out.

how long is the ethernet run?

15mtrs

I've asked a friend of mine just now and he has agreed with a temp swap.

Does the RBS drop out when wireless connected?

Is the RBS directly connected to the RBR or is there a switch in the middle?

Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Please try a factory reset and setup from scratch with the RBR and RBS.

Re: Hard wired RBS40 keeps dropping out

Hi FURRYe38

Re: Hard wired RBS40 keeps dropping out

Does the RBS drop out when wireless connected?

The RBS is out of wifi range of the RBR, that's why I installed a hard line.

Is the RBS directly connected to the RBR or is there a switch in the middle?

There's a gigabit switch in the middle.  The switch is relatively new and has another 7 lines connected; all the other connected devices work fine when the RBS drops out.  I've also swapped the position on the switch just incase there was a dry joint.

Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
The neighbours are about 20 feet away but the channels don't conflict

Please try a factory reset and setup from scratch with the RBR and RBS.
I'll try this and see if it works.  Thanks.  Out of interest, I swapped devices with a friends RBS50 and this has worked flawlessly.  I need to check to see if he has experienced any drops outs on my RBS40.

I'll check with my friend and carry out a factory reset and report back.

Thank you for your help.

I powered down and re boot the system.  Things appear stable...for now.

If it doesn't stay stable, try a different switch.

Re: Hard wired RBS40 keeps dropping out

Good idea!  I've got a Netgear GS116 that I'm not currently using.  I'll give it a go when I switchout my RBR40 for my new RBR850.  Hopefully this will help the situation.

Re: Hard wired RBS40 keeps dropping out

This weekend, I manage to diagnose the speed issue - dead pin on the Ethernet wall socket that the satellite connected to.  As CCA cable is notoriously difficult to terminate, a couple of the pins showed up as dead on the tester.  I decided to splice some copper Cat 6a cable I had and terminated to a new fully shielded cat6 keystone socket.  It worked!!  I managed to go from 85ish mbps to 650mbps....result!.

Then the next issue cropped up.  I used the opporunity to install my RBR850 router and Satellite, the satellite hard wired in the garden office.  For some reason, the satellite is not accepting the hard line, which is significantly faster than the weak wifi signal from the router; which results in the Satellite droping out again.

I've had a look in the router settings and can't find an option to make the Satellite accept the hard line.  The RBR40 (being a weaker router) always connected on the hardline.

Any ideas?

Re: Hard wired RBS40 keeps dropping out

After the RBS is wirelessly connected, if you connnect the RBS to the RBR using a LAN cable, the RBS will auto connect to the RBR. No forcing anything. Test the RBS connection with a LAN cable while in the same room as the RBR to see if it connects fully.

Did you change out the switch?
