How do you close open ports?

I have been running port scans using nmaps and other software.  It that shows there are 9 open ports.   If I use an online check to see if these ports are open they are reported as closed. Should ...

53 port is open on the LAN side is that OK do you think?

I am not aware of the Gibson comment about the WAN side,

When I use the Gibson security (free) port scanner: https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and select "All Service Ports", my Orbi does not respond on port 53.

 

How are you getting at the "public" side of the Orbi?
