Intro to Orbi AC2200

Hey everyone - First post, so go easy 😉

I'm converting my garage into an office next month, and wanted to sort the internet out before hand.

Current set up:

17mbs broadband (upgrading to fibre with max speeds of 37mbs..... Yay for rural England).

Sky router with wifi turned off and an AirPort extreme broadcasting a 2.4GHz and 5GHz network......

I will be wiring 2 cat5e ethernet cables down to the new office, so I can have an access point in there.

I bought a UniFi AC-LR after rave reviews, and hooked that up in place of my AirPort Extreme (yesterday).

Couldn't for the life of me get the band steering to work as I wanted, and it kept pushing my iPhone and iPad to the 2.4GHz network whenever it was in a different room (despite the fact the 5GHz network was still quicker).

But the nail in the coffin seems to be the noise coming from the AP........ It's like a constant white noise/scratching, and seems to be well documented!

I've just bought an Orbi set up (router plus 2 satellites) which is arriving tomorrow - I play to use the router as an AP, one satellite upstairs and the other will be plugged in to the ethernet port in the new office (which will be hooked up to the Sky router).

A few questions if I may......

I have a powerline hooked up to the PS4 upstairs....... Can I get rid of that, and have the PS4 plugged into the Orbi (which will then give a wired connection to the PS4 and a wireless AP to the upstairs)?

Or would it be better to plug the Orbi into the Powerline, and then the PS4 into the Orbi?

Anything else you think I need to look at?

Thanks in advance 🙂

A few questions if I may......

I have a powerline hooked up to the PS4 upstairs....... Can I get rid of that, and have the PS4 plugged into the Orbi (which will then give a wired connection to the PS4 and a wireless AP to the upstairs)?  the PS4 can definitely plug directly into the orbi satellite. Works well at my place 🙂

Or would it be better to plug the Orbi into the Powerline, and then the PS4 into the Orbi?  Try both since you'll already have them. Usually powerline can have interference issues and the Orbi backhaul is pretty robust. With that said, wifi can have many different types of interference that could cause issues. Without being there to assess the situation.....you'll just have to try both and see which gives you the best speeds.

Anything else you think I need to look at?  I think you've though of most things. Its great that you've ran a ethernet line to your "office" for the backhaul. it works great with both wired/wireless backhauls. I always prefered wired though. Hope it does what you expect it to!

Thanks in advance 🙂

Modem Combo Units:
This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
