MAC Address cloning

I've been looking for a Mesh network solution for my home, and so far the reviews I've read about Luma and Eero are not that great. When I saw that netgear was coming up with one, I was excited  because I know Netgear produces quality products (all my switches are netgear). However, there is a very particular configuration that I need for my house, and that is that the router must have a specific MAC address provided by my ISP.

I have searched everywhere and I haven't been able to figure out if Orbi will support MAC address cloning or not, so I decided to ask here in hopes of an answer before I make my decision.

I do have ethernet wiring thorought the house and I'd love if the Orbi satellites were able to use the Ethernet, but it isn't a deal breaker so far.

Hello BasementGamer

Under the Internet Setup in the Orbi you can assign the router a specific MAC address.

hi BG

first just so you understand at this stage the orbi is not mesh enabled as in its ap's/sat do not talk to each other , the orbi system currently works in star topology

for info on initial setup of the orbi router it has a space to enter the mac address clone so your covered there

however if you already have ethernet installed i dont see the orbi being the solution for you as you already have the best backbone infrascture available in your ethernet , even if the do provide an ethernet connection for backbone your still only going to get 400M 2.4 gig and 867M on 5 gig whereas if you run a few wireless ac AP you will achieve better throughput

Hey PT,

Yeah, I first heard about Orbi when I was looking for mesh network solutions, so I assumed Orbi was, but I guess this was another misleading information from Netgear. I am now considering Ubiquiti for my network.

I have decided never to buy netgear again. I had to buy a cheap router recently and I bought the R6220. Well, it turns out that it doesn't support IPv6. I returned it the next day and I am now convinced Netgear is not a brand I can trust. Thanks for your reply
