Mixed satellite models RBR50 + RBS50 + RBS40 + RBS40 Networking issues and Firmware mess
This combination does work ... I have everything on f/w V2.3.5.30 -- so here are the issues:
going into Attached devices, I see all 3 satellites
going into (Online Update) Advanced | Administration | Firmware update I only see the RBR50, the RBS50 and 1 RBS40
-- where is the 2nd RBR40??
-- the RBR50 and RBS50 and the RBS40 all show firmware upgrades available, but the 50's and the 40 are different versions
going into (Manual Update) I see the 2 satellites (the RBS50 and 1 RBS40) with check boxes for upgrade but not the 2nd RBS40
The other day I looked at the firmware status and the RBS50 had upgraded itself to the new f/w V2.5.1.8 so I manually downgraded it to v2.3.5.30 so all satellites would be on the same firmware
The RBS40 that isn't showing up on the firmware screen, but is showing up in attached devices frequently needs to be powercycled (once or twice a day) because even though it has internet access, it frequently fails to allow connections to other devices on the network without a reboot.
So, why would Netgear allow for mixed devices with different current firmware levels show up if it's recommended to have all devices on the same firmware? Why are some devices showing up on the firmware screen and others are not? Why does one satellite require frequent reboots?
All devices are interconnected via wireless, the RBR50 is setup as a router (not AP).

Re: Mixed satellite models RBR50 + RBS50 + RBS40 + RBS40 Networking issues and Firmware mess
Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last update t ov2.5.1.8? This version fixes device naming problems of prior versions of FW on the RBR50.
As long as the RBS are on the latest version of FW found on NGs web site, the RBS should all work for you.
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router
What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or maynot be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).
