ORBI Wired Backhaul not working
Hi everyone!
Im a proud owner of a orbi RBK50 (53) System.
I just moved to a news house so i had the opertunity to lay a wired backhaul network for my orbi system.
Happy that i was ...but 1 of my orbi doesnt preform well
The RBS drops its wifi connection and disappears from the network. I have scanned the wifi network and i see the mac adress of the RBS dropping and comming back up. This happends al the time.
In the RBR on the status page you see that the RBS is not connected and a few minuten later its connect.
I have search the internet for a fix and did the following things:
I tried to turned it to a wirrles backhaul but the problem is stil the same.
I did a clean wipe of the RBS true Tellnet
Gone back a frimeware and reflash the current frimeware
I used the reset button on the backside of the RBS
None of the above helped me out
RBR50 Settings:
Daisy-Chain Topology - Disabled
Implicit BEAMFORMING - Boosts WiFi speed, reliability, & range for all mobile devices - Enable
MU-MIMO - Enable
Fast Roaming - Enable
I have tried turining them on and if but there was no change.
So before i ship it back for warranty i want to know if my setup isnt the problem.
My setup is the following:
The problem is with the RBS50-2
1.modem/router from the provider.(i will refer it as Modem)
WAN/DHCP/NAT is running from here.
Wifi is turned of
PORTS:
1.1 one cable to netgear 8 port switch.
1.2 one cable to RBR50
2.
RBR50
PORTS:
2.1 cable from the Modem to RBR50 (explained in 1.2)
3. RBS50 - 1
3.1 One cable from switch to RBS50
3.2 One cable from RBS50-1 to RBS50-2
4. RBS50 - 2 (this one is the problem)
4.1 recieving one cable from RBS50-1(explained in 3.2)
I have read on the forms, if you want to setup a wired backhaul you have to connect the RBS wirelles to the RBR.
If that is done. Connect the RBS directly to the RBR by ethernet.
When in the status page the wirles backhaul changes to Wired you can disconnect the RBS and put them on there place.
This worked for me but stil got the problem with RBS50-2
I think i have to turn it in for warranty but its to much of a drag haha.
so if anyone can help me?

Re: ORBI Wired Backhaul not working
Have you swapped positions with RBS #1 with RBS#2?
What is the model# of the ethernet switch in the configuration.
Sounds like the #2 RBS is faulty and needs to be replaced. I would get it replaced or take the entire system back to place of purchase and get another. Inform the company you got the system from that the RBS is faulty so they can get it sent back to NG.

Re: ORBI Wired Backhaul not working
I have tried a different orbi RBS50 from a friend.
But i still got the same problem.
I have connected RBS50-1 to RBS50-2. I think thats the problem.
If i connect the RBS50-1 and RBS50-2 directly to the switch it works. But i cannot use the RBS50-1 to connect to the RBS50-2 thru ethernet.

Re: ORBI Wired Backhaul not working
So can you connect both RBS directly to the RBR?
I don't know if daisy chaining RBS to the back of another RBS with ethernet will work.
Both directly connected to the RBR should though.

Re: ORBI Wired Backhaul not working
Daisy chain is Disabled
If i connect the RBS both to the RBR it works fine.
So i think the setup must be then RBR Switch RBS50-1 and Switch RBS50-2
To Bad i cant use the RBS to connect a different RBS

Re: ORBI Wired Backhaul not working
Ok, so the RBS work both when directly connected to the RBR.
What happens if you enable Daisy Chain, then connect the RBS to the RBS via eithernet.
It's supposedly supported in this configuration:
Be sure your using good quality LAN cables. CAT6 is recommended.

Re: ORBI Wired Backhaul not working
Hi,
I tried that already.
It only works if you connect the RBR directly to the RBS and RBS to RBS
I got a different setup. My RBR is connected to the Switch and from there to the RBS50-1. But if i connect my RBS50-1 to the RBS 50-2
it doesnt work. the RBS50-2 drops it connection.
In the link i got a combination of the second and the thrid one.

Re: ORBI Wired Backhaul not working
So I tried setup number 3
https://kb.netgear.com/000051205/What-is-Ethernet-backhaul-and-how-do-I-set-it-up-on-my-Orbi-WiFi-Sy...
I connected the RBR to the switch and the RBS 1 AND RBS 2 also.
I still get that the second orbi drops it connections.
Even if I check in the status menu of the RBR. It says disconnected.
I tried a different orbi but stil I get the same problem.
The orbi also flashes white and solid blue.
Then it drops its connection. And again begin with flashing white then solid blue. This goes on every 15/30 minutes.
I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

Re: ORBI Wired Backhaul not working
What is the Mfr and model# of the ethernet switch in the configuration?
If the RBR and RBS work directly connected with out a switch. I would presume this switch being used maybe the culprit.

Re: ORBI Wired Backhaul not working
I dont know actualy, because its a 8 port switch and the other devices are working fine. Also the first RBS.
The strange thing is if i switch the place of the RBS50-1 and 50-2 the problem shift to the other orbi.
this is my switch:GS108 – 8 poorts Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged Switch.
Maybe the orbi doesnt work wel with a wired backhaul on a switch

Re: ORBI Wired Backhaul not working
Some switches like managed or switches with Green Ethernet features don't work well with Orbi systems. I would try a different switch.
RBS do work ethernet connected to switches. My RBS is behind 3 switches before it gets to the RBR. No issues. My switches are non managed and don't have any green ethernet features.

Re: ORBI Wired Backhaul not working
I got the same setup by my parents. And everything work straight away. I got one satellite connected wired and one wirelles. I have used the same switches at my place.
The switches aren't green or have green port. They are unmaneged.
Could it be that my orbi router is defect? And can't sustain a second satellite connection?
Because I have tried everything now and it stil doesnt work...

Re: ORBI Wired Backhaul not working
It was a faulty powersuply so everytime I was testing the setup. I mixed use the power adapter from the different orbi.
So I did a test with the orbi and the power supply. And that was the problem. Thanks for the help.

Glad that you found the solution, but I'm curious to know what you mean by mixing between the power supply adapters? As far as I know the power supply adapters are the same for the Orbi Router as well as the Satellites, what have you mixed? 🙂
