Thank you for the diagram. My opinion is, "The original plan should work."
I have never been able to understand the "Green is bad" position. What I read is that when a "green" switch detects that a port is unused, it will cut power to that port. Or, that it will determine the actual power required to transmit based on some measure of the length of the wire and reduce power. The satellite should never "go quiet".
I agree that a quick test would be to connect the router and satellite at the garage patch panel. That totally eliminates the GS108 from the picture. I understand this cannot be a long term solution because it kills the entire network. BUT.... If THAT doesn't work, then as Sherlock would say, "The Game's Afoot."
