Re: Orbi MR 2.1 Update 3/23/18
I don;t think you have to hard reset the satellites. I have had it done for about 12 hours now and only thing I did was factory reset the router adn updated the satellites.

Re: Orbi MR 2.1 Update 3/23/18
All:
This is beta firmware, there is no beta phone app so do NOT expect the app to be perfect. Only trust the app once the firmware becomes official. More than likely the app is looking for say 10 parameters from each device to know all its stats and now it returning 12 to the app, of course the app is going to be confused. So for now only trust the webpage of the specific RBR or RBS.

Re: Orbi MR 2.1 Update 3/23/18
I updated and this time did not do a factory reset. All working well for now.
I have the RBK50 with this beta firmware and the the RBS40 still running the production release all working well together.
My Android Orbi app correctly sees the satellites.
I don't know if you are on IOS or Android. Either way try and re-install the app and see if that fixes the problem.

Re: Orbi MR 2.1 Update 3/23/18
Indeed. I stayed patient, but in the end this firmware did me in. I rely on a stable network for daily use and Netgear just isn’t there yet. So far, with eero, I’m trouble free with more consistent throughout in pocket areas of my house.

Re: Orbi MR 2.1 Update 3/23/18
So far working well. Wife hasn't complained about how slow the internet is and how its not working sometimes (let me clarify I do have AT&T gigapower so connection is not an issue, my problem has been wifi related). I will update in another 48 hours or so. So far its been about 18 hours since install.

I actually switched in the other direction. From EERO to Orbi.
I work at home as well and rely on ubiquitous coverage and high reliability and availability.
I agree that when operational the EERO was very reliable, but for me, EERO has an Achilles heel.
No internet, then no WiFi or LAN either. If Comcast decided to do maintenance at 3 AM then I had no access to my NAS's, printers, home automation functions... nothing. Without a connection to the mothership, the EERO does nothing, no wifi, no DHCP, no LAN. Just not something I could live with.
I have not suffered many of the anomalies outlined here, and on the occasions I have, they were of my own making (playing in hidden pages, not hard resetting after firmware update and trying to restore backups from previous versions of firmware.) IOS devices work better if I forget the network and then set it up again after the firmware update. Win 10 clients seem to hang on to BSSID's, so same thing, I delete and then re-add the known network. This last update oddly caused High Siera to fall back to 2.4G at times for no apparent reason until I did a hard reset and configured from scratch. I have 62 clients from a myriad of manufacturers which are all working again without dropouts or connectivity issues. I don't ever use the app for setup (always the web GUI). I did need to use the sync button this time on V2.1.3.4 to get the satellites synced up and happy on 5G backhaul again.
And just in case, I picked up a Tenda Nova MW6 mesh 3 pack on Amazon when it was on sale for $129. Impressively its signal strength and coverage is almost as good as the Orbi but it is bare bones on features but in the event of a hard down on the Orbi system I can light it off and keep on working (even without internet service)
My suggestion for those of you that are ready to throw in the towel... if you are up to it, give it one more try.
Upgrade Firmware to 2.1.3.4 (Sats first, then router)
Let the system come all the way back up.
Paperclip/Hard Reset Sats and Rtr
Configure from scratch using Web GUI (patience on the satellite setup page is a must and may require a reload or two)
Keep names, SSIDs, PWDs to alphanumeric under 15 char
Hard set 2.4 and 5G channels
On IOS, MAC OS, Windows, and Android clients forget the network and then add it back in with the newly configured system.
Not sure if these suggestions will help anyone, but I thought I would put it out there.

Re: Orbi MR 2.1 Update 3/23/18
Good advice, but I just went through all of this with the last beta firmware. We’re STILL in beta with no end in sight. This product is not ready for prime time.

Re: Orbi MR 2.1 Update 3/23/18
Did the same - sold my Orbi on eBay... had enough of the poor release quality. I've had Eero for 3 weeks and it's completely stable and I have far better coverage. Not quite as fast, but only marginaly slower - stability trumps a small speed difference any day.

Re: Orbi MR 2.1 Update 3/23/18
Hi,
sorry but your beta is really a beta...
i've installed it first day, factory reset router and satellite, and i don't see any difference between the beta and 2.0.1.4 (maybe this one was better...)
yesterday afternoon, with my ipad , playing a video via Plex, disconnected every 5 minutes (i was connected on satellite i think) . Turn off the satellite, video work fine.
Later in night, screen mirroring of my iphone (streaming a video from my nas) on my apple TV, both connected in router, not for a long time...disconnected ! the router reboot !
(Strange, Note that playing a video with a box connected with wire on the satellite seems to work nice for 1-2 hour, not disconnected )
There really a problem with the Orbi !
When i look at uptime from statistics page, it never goes after 1 day ! why it always restart !!!?
And when i see number in the table.... do you think WLAN backhaul can grow for always !?
i think number format has limited size ? (hope variable is 64bit to store it... )

Hi Netgear Admin,
it's me again...
System uptime reset to "0:0:0:0" 4 times in 2 hours, and the router has rebooted 1 time i think.
I have checked "Start Debug Log Capture when boot up" in debug.htm before this reset/reboot, so i have 4 files debug-log.zip if you want i can send you the logs ?
For example :
762.92 HYDR bandmon ERR : bandmonMBSAHandleRawMediumUtilizationUpdateEvent: Failed to resolve channel information for channel 108
763.92 HYDR bandmon ERR : bandmonMBSAHandleRawMediumUtilizationUpdateEvent: Failed to resolve channel information for channel 108
765.11 HYDR csh ERR : New shell session (2/5) using sd 36
765.92 HYDR bandmon ERR : bandmonMBSAHandleRawMediumUtilizationUpdateEvent: Failed to resolve channel information for channel 108

I'm beginning to see somewhat of a pattern, AppleTalk devices seem to be producing the problems. Interesting.....

I'm not at home, so no "active" device is running, maybe my apple TV with homekit and one ipad which wifi is on, but that's all.

I had heard about some dependence Eero had on its own servers but I never imagined it was such that LAN and WiFi stop functioning. That's some achilles heel. Yikes.
2.1.3.4 seems to have brought more stability to my environment.

Re: Orbi MR 2.1 Update 3/23/18
I was not having any problems with the previous firmware. I used the wired backhaul and it all seemed to be working well. The only issue I noticed crop up with the old firmware was that my android TV amazon video app would stutter a lot. I have not verified if this issue is fixed or if its an issue with that app (its the only app on the TV to have this issue).
I updated to the latest beta because I'm a sucker to want to try new things. So far its been stable for about 1.5 days. The only issue I had was my rainmachine sprinkler controller was disconnecting and connecting continuously. I tried rebooting the orbi and that didn't do anything. So I went and disconnected and connected the rainmachine and that appears to have mostly rectified the issue. I still got two disconnect messages last night but overall it seems to be functioning better. Is there anything I can do to detect the issue for these disconnect and reconnect messages?

Re: Orbi MR 2.1 Update 3/23/18
I did not have any problems with previous version, but I went ahead and updated to the beta.
Now on the satellite I am getting disconnects... but just one device. It's a La Crosse c84343 weather station. It constantly (like once a minute) disconnects and then comes back online and requests DHCP address. My log is now filled with DHCP messages from that device. If it helps, that device is quite close to the satellite.
I have not done a hard reset of the satellite - I will do that next.
So far, this seems to be my only issue with the beta (knock on wood) but like I say, this is a new issue.

This issue is particular to the La Crosse weather station. For whatever reason, it gets very confused when both a 2.4G and 5G share the same SSID.
If you call their support line and chat a bit you will hear this about other routers and brands that share a common SSID. The trick to get it working again is to turn off the SSID broadcast for 5G (under Advanced wireless setup), then factory reset the La Crosse, link it up to the 2.4G SSID (which is the only one now being broadcast), power cycle the LaCrosse once the setup is complete and then re-enable SSID broadcast on 5G.
Make sure you are running the latest firmware on the LaCrosse as well.
This is not an Orbi issue but rather a LaCrosse issue that they are aware of.
