Orbi RBR20 Slow hardwire speeds
Looking for some help to sort out my poor hardwired performance speeds. Currently have 1GB service via Xfinity that is connected via CM1000 Modem and RB20 router (plus satellites). Utilizing Ookla on my PC i am only seeing 94Gb/s DL speeds however from my phone I receive 479Gb/s. Granted the wifi speeds are still not 1GB this is far better than <100Gb hardwired speeds. Any idea why this might be? If someone has ideas regarding wifi speeds i am all ears there as well.

Re: Orbi RBR20 Slow hardwire speeds
First a minor point. It can confuse readers when G (for gigabit) is used when it should be M (for megabit). An Xfiinity gigabit connection is 1,000 megabits. Thus, it is impossible to have a 94Gb connection.
A wired connection speed of "just under" 100Mbps is very often related to a problem with the Ethernet connection. Modern Ethernet electronics include a feature to auto-negotiate the connection speed.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonegotiation It is part of the physical electronics.
The Orbi web interface, Advanced Tab home page has a blue selection, Show Stastics.
Selecting that will open a box showing how the Orbi is connected to the WAN interface and each of the LAN interfaces.
My guess is that this will show the port connected to the computer as 100M/Full, rather than 1000M/Full
Several things can cause this:
- A flaw in the actual Ethernet cable.
- Something wrong with the RJ45 plugs crimped on each end of the cable.
- Something wrong with the RJ45 jacks (on the Orbi and on the computer) Perhaps one of the tiny gold wires inside the jack is bent or twisted.
If the PC connection goes through a switch and in-house wiring, there are more potential points to consider.

Re: Orbi RBR20 Slow hardwire speeds
Sorry for the confusion of M vs Gb's however thank you for clarifying the point.
Checking the Orbi web interface i do have 1000M/Full on both the WAN & LAN. I do have a gigabit switch connected as well. I am going to swap out all of the cables and the switch to see if I can find the breakpoint.

Re: Orbi RBR20 Slow hardwire speeds
Show Statistics appears to have demonstrated that the link between router and switch is fine.
Good luck finding which component is causing the problem.
Some Ethernet switches have tiny colored LEDs on each Ethernet jack which identify the connection speed. Netgear did not include LEDs on the Orbi product, possibly because:
- The ports are in the back where users are unable to view them easily, and
- Many customers prefer not to have bright lights when electronics are located in sleeping areas.
