Orbi RBR40 dropping upload bonding
I have Spectrum high speed (400 mbps up / 20 mbps down) internet connected to my Orbi RBR40 router via Motorola MB7621 cable modem. I have noticed that periodically my modem lights indicate that the Orbi has lost its upstream channel bond. The Orbi does not correct this condition unless I reboot. Any ideas as to why this would happen?

Re: Orbi RBR40 dropping upload bonding
What Firmware is currently loaded?
Swap LAN cables between the ISP modem and RBR.
Power OFF both modem and RBR for 1 minute, Then back on with the Modem then after, the RBR.
Has a factory reset been performed since last FW update?

Re: Orbi RBR40 dropping upload bonding
Firmware is up to date (v2.3.5.30) and was recently reset without issue. Ethernet cable between modem and Orbi is new, but will look into getting another one. Beyond this, do you have any explanation as to why the Orbi would lose its channel bond? I'm trying to understand the logic process of the Orbi, which continually frustrates me, as I no one seems to be able to explain why the Orbi seems to have various issues that continue from firmware update to firmware update.

Re: Orbi RBR40 dropping upload bonding
The modem LEDS are indicating services with the ISP, not the Orbi. There are UP and Download status LEDs. https://assets.ctfassets.net/0dyo76hkwr49/2zjSwlh6tygA8swOIkaOk8/24a5316c1e4da567e30a3945550cb0b3/27...
Ensure there are no coax cable line splitters in between the modem and ISP service box.
Ensure you using good quality RG6 coax cable between the modem and ISP service box.
Contact the ISP and have them check the signal line and quality up to the modem and check there logs for any disconnections on your line.

The reason the Orbi has problems from FW to FW is because there is no one size fits all. None of us are running our networks the same. Some very basic other with dozens of switches, routers, devices, etc. Therefore what works for you may break someone elses network. The best approach is to stay away from manual updates. NG (my understanding) now only pushes FW IF it contains major updates that will benefits most users. If your system is running, leave it alone, stop checking for updates and enjoy life.

Re: Orbi RBR40 dropping upload bonding
The issue isn't with his FW update or orbi, the issue is with his modem.
Manual FW updates have been working well for me FYI. But I factory reset and setup from scratch each time.

Re: Orbi RBR40 dropping upload bonding
I haven't seen NG not recommend anything.
I help test FW for NG and there users. I agree for some, FW updates may not be needed. For those that want updates, we are here to help ensure recent FW is working for everyone. Troubleshoot the causes if any and find solutions for NG to fix items that need to be fixed is all. Nothing wrong in helping out and giving exerpeinces to those looking. And there are those of us how live on the EDGE.

That's nice to know.
So provide us the full story on the auto update nightmare and how NG stopped pushing updates, and why would anyone want to upgrade their FW if all is working fine?

Thanks,.....your reponse reflects your actions. Good luck in your FW testing with users here and on the edge (a place most users do not want). In cases where the FW is on record as creating problems for some, you would be best to acknowledge that rather than suggest the user go chase other items.

Re: Orbi RBR40 dropping upload bonding
Been helping where I can and have been getting results and resultions for users problems. There are solved threads to prove it. You can't say that everyone doesn't want FW updates either.
Anyways, Good Luck...not back to our programming.

Let us know how it goes with the modem and ISP.
