Orbi Stability

Hi, Posting this as it may help others....

We have had no end of reliability issues using a RBR50 + RBS50 pairing.

Our house is not so big and we had the router upstairs and the satellite downstairs with a wirelss backhaul between the two.  With all recent firmwares (last 4 versions) performance is poor with random disconnects across a variety of devices.

What we have found is that if we only use the router (turn off the satellite and/or remove it from the configuration) the perfromance and stability is great.  We are lucky the size of our house allows us to operate this way.

I believe that the implementation of the wireless backhaul is buggy and not fit for purpose in the current setup.  I don't know if wired backhaul is any better as we have not used that.

Cheers.

Hopefully this is helpful to isolate issues for others.  I understand not everyone will be able to function with a single device though.

Re: Orbi Stability

RBS pairing should not be buggy. Means there is a mis configuration or bad placement. Pairing of RBS works for me and others. Further troubleshooting should be performed to determine this first. Last resort maybe the RBS is faulty and needs replacing.

What Firmware is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between them to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. I have mine at 40 feet with Zero issues. Currnently working in wired mode. Placement is curucial.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or maynot be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Try disabling the following and see:
Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

Completely agree with you. I also had similar issues with Satellites in the last few software releases. Switching the Satellite off also solved my issues.

The solution that worked for me to overcome the bad Satellite behavior is as follows:

1. Switch off the Satellite

2. Go to Attached Devices on the Web GUI and click on the "Remove" button by the Satellite

3. Switch on the Satellite and push the reset button for 15 seconds to factory reset it.

4. When the Satellite comes up, press the Sync button on the Satellte and then the Router to add the Satellite

5. When the Satellite gets added, the Satellite will start functioning as normal and will stop causing issues!

Please try this procedure. It worked for me every time, but not on the latest software (2.3.5.30). That's why I still have 2.3.1.60.
