Orbi admin password recovery instructions do not work

I need to log into my router.  I have apparently forgoten my admin password. When I follow the instructions to login to www.orbilogin.com, it takes me to a Netgear page that tells me that I do not appear to be linked to the netowrk of my Orbi router, although the router is the only way that I can get to the internet and thus Netgear's page.  When I attempt to get to 192.168.1.1, I get security notices that it is unsafe (which I bypass), only to wind up at a 401 Not Authorized message - that does not have the Orbi serial number option to login.  I have tried these instructions from several devices and with several browsers, all with the saem results.  Anybody have any ideas besides doing a factory reset?

What is the IP address assigned to the device you are using to reach the Orbi?

In case you run an earlier Chrome 77 version, ensure to update to the current one. Drop the browser cache in case. Then retry.
