At present I have a Netgear C6300 router. The wifi range is adequate but I was searching for an extender as all the rooms in the house are not getting great wifi. Is the ORBI Mini ac2200 compatible with the C6300. Which would be the mesh network for the C6300?
Because the C6300 has a DOCSIS cable modem built in, you either have to replace it with a plain cable modem, or keep it and disable the WiFi feature.
Orbi does not "extend" a product like this. It replaces the WiFi network. (My practice when replacing WiFi systems is to give the new WiFi system the exact same WiFi name (SSID) and password as the one being replaced. So, if I should decide to "go back", I can simply unplug the new WiFi and reactivate the WiFi on the old system.
If you keep the C6300, you have two basic choices:
Disable WiFi on the C6300. Install the Orbi (with the same WiFi credentials). Place the Orbi into Access Point (AP) mode, so that the C6300 continues to manage the network.
Place the C6300 into "bridge" or "passthrough" mode so that it no longer acts like a router or does WiFi. Install the Orbi in its default "router" mode and have the Orbi become the network manager. Using the same WiFi credentials on the Orbi means that you can (if you need or want to), unplug the Orbi and reset the C6300 to its default configuration.
