Plastic sleeve that comes installed on new Orbi units
About the only thing that plastic sleeve is good for, is so when you pick up the unit, the sleeve slips off and the unit goes crashing to the floor.

And you didn't remove the sleeve after you un-boxed it?

Re: Plastic sleeve that comes installed on new Orbi units
And why would I remove it? Later maybe, but not until I had dropped each unit a couple of times, and figured out how dumb that sleeve was

Re: Plastic sleeve that comes installed on new Orbi units
The only purpose it serves is so they could same a dime by using the same housing for all their units, without having to screen print which was the router and which was the satellite. It's just like why they don't have an 800 trouble number..

And one could pick up the units by the lower portion of the device or on the side too....

This thread is funny and it made me laugh.
With all the frustration and seriousness on here, it's nice to know we all have something important to complain about! 😉

Simple things can be funny.

Dumber question...
Could that plastic sleeve act as a weather proof enclosure for the outdoor Orbi?

Love the humor. Even though the Product Data Sheet says this:
I would at least put a roof over it.

Re: Plastic sleeve that comes installed on new Orbi units
This sleeve was for the Orbi Outdoor Satellite, isn't it?
The early https://www.netgear.com/images/datasheet/orbi/RBS50Y.pdf was IP56 (with disputable results however), the later https://www.netgear.com/images/datasheet/orbi/RBS50Yv2.pdf was spec'ed IP66.
