Problem with RBS50 - does not connect to RBR50

I bought a used RBR50 + RBS50 combo a few months back. I was able to install RBR50 and with some trial and error the RBS50. However, the RBS50 kept on disconnecting from the RBR50. So I updated the firmware for both to V2.7.1.60. This seemed to do the trick and the mesh network was working in a very stable mode for the last many weeks. I elected to not update firmware any further.

Unfortunately, the RBSS50 was power cycled inadvertently and since then it has been a heap of trouble. The issue is as follows:

1. I power on the RBS50, the ring LED on the top flashes once (sometimes the top LED does not flash at all). The power LED at the back is green, but the ring LED on the top does not flash

2. I use the iPhone app to "Add a Satellitle" and follow the steps

3. I get the message "Satellite not found" along with a satellite LED color guide

The App showed the RBS50 as Diconnected. I figured that perhaps that was the issue, so I removed it from the network. And then went through "Add a satellite" in the App. Still no joy.

I have looked at various posts. One of them suggested that I connect my laptop to the RBS50 using an ethernet cable and see if I can get a DHCP IP from the RBS50. No luck with that.

I have tried to Reset the RBS50 multiple times. One one occassion I got the top ring LED to flash Green after reset. I have not found this documented anywhere.

The RBS50 unit is definitely powering on, but refuses to connect to the RBR50.

Would appreciate any help/suggestions.

P.S. I have NOT tried the tftp suggestion because the tftp client is being flagged by Chrome as being unsafe for download.

Re: Problem with RBS50 - does not connect to RBR50

Update: A new developement on the RBS50. When I moved it to another location and powered it up I saw the top ring LED flash white five times and then it is only flashing Green. The power LED shows up as Green.

Will not Sync up with the RBR50.

Don't trust the app

Refresh it or reinstall it

many never use it

login into your router via a web browser

I have tried Adding Satellite through the web browser as well. No luck.

I now have the RBS50 ring LED flashing White now! I have no idea why the ring LED flashing Green before. The instructions in the web App say that the ring LED should be solid White. Not sure how to get it to that state.

Re: Problem with RBS50 - does not connect to RBR50

I tried setting up a new system via pc wired and I wasn't able to get a link eather. Thy just came up with a msg re the app. I tried all the address I could find and in the end had to use the app. Some 50s may well have been setup to block wired setup, I am in the UK.

Re: Problem with RBS50 - does not connect to RBR50

So I went through multiple attempts of reseting the RBS50. Got the unit to flash white, and then using the web based interface added the Satellite once again. Worked! I am now able to see the satellite in the iphone App, as well as through the web browser.

Disconnected the power and moved the RBS50 to where it can provide coverage for the rest of the house. Connected it to power, and it continues to work.

Can't tell you what I did that was different the last time  tp get it to work ! All I can say is keep on trying to reset the RBS50 unit and use the web interface to add the satellite.

What Firmware version is currently loaded on the RBR and RBS. They need to be the same version or will not work right.

Are you suggesting down reving firmware to V2.6.1.40, the other version that I see posted on the downloads for RBR50?

Thanks.

Re: Problem with RBS50 - does not connect to RBR50

v2.7 is for users in the USA region and not out side this region. So you should down grade to v40 or v16.

Downgrade the RBS first then RBR lastly then factory reset and setup from scratch.

I'm saying lots of problems with V2.7.1.60.....so perhaps you should revert back to your most recent stable version.

Re: Problem with RBS50 - does not connect to RBR50

I am located in the US.

I decided to down rev to V2.6.1.40 - the only other version that was posted in downloads. I down reved the RBS and the RBR. Seems to be working right now.

I had a fairly stable setup for a couple of weeks on V2.7.1.60. Will report out how things go.

Unfortunately no joy. The RBS50 continued to get disconnected from the RBR50 😞

Have tried some of the same things that seemed to work in the past, but with no luck. So trying to work with just the RBR50. Any suggestions, other than to conclude that there is a hardware problem with the RBS50?

Honestly, quite disappointed with the entire experience.

Re: Problem with RBS50 - does not connect to RBR50

Came back to this after all.

RBS50 and RBR50 both on V2.6.1.40. Getting the RBS50 to connect and finding no joy.

While pairing using the web app and the mobile app I see that the satellite shows up as two separate Orbi Satellites connected to the RBR50 under "Connected Devices".

* One of them shows up as DEV-00:00:00 as a rouetr. Connection Type Unknown. Mac Addr is something like 06:00:00:00:00:00.

* The other one is also DEV-00:00:00 as an Broadcasting AP. Connection Type Unknown. Mac Addr: 0A:00:00:00:00:00

Both have the same IP address

There is no Connected Satellite.

This must be a step during the pairing because the web app very optimistically says that the satellite has paired!

After a while, both these DEV-00:00:00 devices disappear from the list of Connected Devices. No RBS50 is connected.

I have tried to factory reset the RBS50 but to no avail. Same outcome.

Should I give up on this RBS50?

Re: Problem with RBS50 - does not connect to RBR50

@vajim - Any suggestions?

I am unable to access my RBS50 over a wired connection. Have tried all manner of things. Reset does not seem to work. And since it does not pair with the RBR50 I cannot upload an older firmware to the RBS50 via the GUI.

I tried downgrading firmware on just the RBR50, but that did not seem to help. Everything leads me to believe that I have a kaput RBS50.

Thanks.

Re: Problem with RBS50 - does not connect to RBR50

@vajim - I had started a different thread for that - https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/RBS50-does-not-sync-with-RBR50/m-p/2041258#M111839

Basically, on an isolated network, i.e. just the RBS50 satellitle and my PC connected over ethernet, I cannot login using the web interface into the RBS50. Get a 500 error from server. Have tried tftp, but that does not work either.

if you can't login to the web interface, you've got other problems.  You do have the RBR50 to go with that RBS50?

Yes, the RBR50 works just fine. I have reset it and configured it from scratch.

if you did a factory reset on the router you should also do it on the sat
