RB50 - Nas over Wirless Backhaul
Hey Folks,
I have an RBR50 connected next to a Virgin Media modem, a RBS50 Upstairs thats connected Wired into my PC with a 1GB lan port. Now when I transfer from my hard drive on my PC to my NAS (nas is connected ethernet to the RBR50 Downstairs, I get about 45-50Mb/s transfer rate for a large media file. Over a wired backhaul (trapsed a 30m Cat6 cable downstairs) and via direct connection to the RBR50, I max out the Lan at 115Mb/s.
Now I know its 1st world problems but it seems that the wireless backhaul is reducing speed with maybe the encryption or the fact its wireless. The connection betweeen the 2 is good (1300M). Any options here or I am going to have to have a conversation with the misses about routing a cable across the bricks outside? Reason I ask is also I am due to get upgraded to the 500mb service from Virgin and with this being the main PC, I want it to be the fastest
Cheers

Re: RB50 - Nas over Wirless Backhaul
What Firmware is currently loaded?
What is the model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too? Built in router here by chance?
Modem Combo Units:
This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

~The netgear unit is in modem only mode, connected to the internet port of the RBR50 downstairs. Latest firmware on the Orbi for both the sat and router

Re: RB50 - Nas over Wirless Backhaul
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between them to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.
Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or maynot be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

Re: RB50 - Nas over Wirless Backhaul
The satalite was tested 3m, 20m away with no difference. The computer in question is connected viua ethernet on the satalite and when insterted direclty to the router, the speed doubles for NAS transfer. Surley the MIMO and Beamforming etc would make zero difference as this is an issue with the wireless backhaul. Connect via ethernet backhaul and the problem goes away.

Re: RB50 - Nas over Wirless Backhaul
Beamforming and MIMO effect only wireless connections.
Wireless speeds will not be the same as wired speeds as well.

Re: RB50 - Nas over Wirless Backhaul
I know that, but this is to do with the backhaul. MIMO and Beamforming wont affect the backhaul. My question is regarding the throughput and the overhead. When I SSHed into the router it said the ling speed was 1300mb which is the max speed for the wireless backhaul. Just seems pretty bad really that from a theoretical max of >160Mb/s I lose about that much

Re: RB50 - Nas over Wirless Backhaul
The 1300Mbps you see is the connection rate between the RBR and RBS only. This is not a actual thruput speed for traffic. Different animal.
