RBK12 Wifi Issues (Device connection to satellites and joining network)

Hello,

Looking for help to understand how best to trouble shoot of my set up.  I have 1 router and 2 satellites.

What is happening and I'm experiencing is that certain devices (mac and ios devices) will not join or stay in network when closer to a satellite vs router.  they have to be closer to the main router. The devices can see the SSID when closer to the satellite with a strong signal but won't join and sometimes forgetting the wifi and rejoining sometimes fixes this but this is not sustainable.

When checking the signal between the router and satellites via the orbi app there is no obvious culprit as the signal between them seems strong and the satellites do host other deivices.

Any help on how to troubleshoot this would be most welcomed.

Firstly, thank you for willingness to help.  I factory reset both satellites, re-added them to router.  This seems to have solved the issue.

So I take it that its resolved for the time being? If so, you can mark that as solved so the next person might see what you did and try that first. Glad to hear its working though!

Re: RBK12 Wifi Issues (Device connection to satellites and joining network)

What firmware is on the router?
What firmware is on the satellites?

What modem/gateway is connected to the router?

Is it onily mac/iOS devices having issues? Windows/android are fine?

when it happens, do devices say "connected, no internet" , do they not see the ssid at all, do they see it but can't join and if this is the case what error do they give?

Details are key in helping out. So a little more details on what actually happens can help us to help you.

Re: RBK12 Wifi Issues (Device connection to satellites and joining network)

Firstly, thank you for willingness to help.  I factory reset both satellites, re-added them to router.  This seems to have solved the issue. It is very wierd because both the satellites had devices hosted (google home minis and smart outlets) which confused me as to why they wouldn't take new devices.

  • Router and satellite firmware - V2.7.3.22
  • Using a Motorola modem, connected directly to the router.  Once a device is on the network internet is fine.
  • Also confirmed this is not limited to only iOS/Mac devices as previously stated.  an LG android phone was having this issue.
  • All devices see the SSID, attempt to connect but always unsuccessful.   Attached is  picture of an iphone 1 ft away from a satellite.  No connection to the network (logging in to the orbi app, to see devices confirmed it is not on the network)
  • I also made sure in the advance tab for wi-fi, all the options were turned on (roaming and optimized for multimedia)
