RBR20 slow wifi
I have an Orbi RBR20 and my WIFI download speeds are slower than my upload speeds. I’ve completed a factory reset and still have crazy slow speeds. My hardwired speeds are extremely fast but my WiFi i...

1. What modem are you using?
2. Firmware on your orbi?
3. What speeds are you getting?
4. What are you testing with?
5. Have you tried a different speedtest site? Which one/ones?
6. you say hardwired is fine, what do you get hardwired?
- gmelton01Nov 17, 2019AspirantI’m using the router that Spectrum provide me that also supports or home phone. I’m using Speedtest by Ookla. The Orbi router is getting 450download but the satellites are much slower. I have one satellite in my living room with my Apple TV hard wired because the WiFi speeds are so slow. The Apple TV gets 450 download because it’s hard wired. Both satellites seems to be slow sometimes and faster other times. When I say slow they are giving me 5-25 download. Does that help?

A little.
1. What firmware is on them?
2. How far apart are they?
3. What is this spectrum box? model number help more.
4. What is your house materials?
5. Are you using any traffic monitoring, qos, parental controls, disney circle, armor, etc?
6. Slow sometimes and fast other doesn't tell me much. The orbi's do band steering so they place your devices on 2.4ghz or 5ghz depending on a series of factors. 2.4ghz is much slower but penetrates better. 5ghz has much higher bandwidth but doesn't transmit as far or through as much. When its slow, what band is that device connected to?
7. Is there much wireless interference in your are? If you do a wireless channel scan, how many networks are in the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands?

Hi gmelton01,
I have a customer who has the exact same issues that you are describing.
Cabled into the RBR20 they get 100/20Mbps but over wifi connected to the RBR20 they would be lucky to get 20/20Mbps, and from the Satellites (RBS20) only one floor up (showing good connection) they would be lucky to get 6/6Mbps at times, sometimes 20/20Mbps.
They don't have another ISP router in the mix, the WAN connection plugs direct into their RBR20 though.
All this testing is on a Windows laptop.
RBR20 & RBS20 all running latest firmware v2.3.5.26.
Have tried with Parental controls, Disney Circle, MU-MIMO, Band Steering and Daisy-Chain ON and OFF. No difference.
Have tried different WiFi channels for 2.4Ghz & 5GHz, no change.
Would love to get to the bottom of this!

The problem lies with the firmware v2.3.5.26. To put it simply it's junk and it looks like they didn't test it at all before they forced all routers to automatically upgrade. I have the RBR20 router as well with 2 satellites (tried both wireless and wired backbone) and I went from 200+Mbps download on wifi to now 1-15Mbps and the only thing that happened is their firmware automatically updated. I did the whole factory reset and the whole nine yards and it's still poor. Pinging the router while on wifi is 300-500ms but when hardwired it's <1ms.
Contacted support on numerous occaisions and they couldn't be any more useless, they blame everything but their firmware even when you tell them it was fine before they say that's not possible.
I bought a super cheap wifi router and running it in Access Point mode so I can still use wifi and even with the cheap wifi router I'm getting 200+ Mbps on wireless. The coverage isn't as good as the Orbi was when it worked but something is better than nothing I guess.
