RED Power Led Orbi RBS40v
Hi all
I had a working RBS40V
however i moved it and now the power led just shows RED (the little light at the back). Normally ofc this would be a greed light to show power to the device.
There is no other sign of life.
I have tried leaving it unplugged for over a week and then powering up with reset button etc...
Nothing seems to have worked.
Any ideas welcomed.

Re: RED Power Led Orbi RBS40v
sounds like you might have a corrupt firmware or boot up issue.
You can try recoving it with tftp or nmrpflash.
are you on windows? if so, follow this guide
https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
just make sure you enable tftp
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10
and here's a video walk through using a tftp client. Use the built in one for windows 10 though. the video is more of an example of how its done.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9DLrLQrpaw
and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash
https://github.com/jclehner/nmrpflash
also in AP setup: RAXE500->EAX80
1.4gig download/50mbps upload from Xfinity

Re: RED Power Led Orbi RBS40v
Hi, so the first method didn't work, using a static ip address on ethernet, as the device doesn't respond to 168.1.1., so i guess i need to try the other tool
however , idiot here.. not absoutely sure on the method. downloaded the zip, (and installed npcap)
but unclear of method to start nmrpflash as its not a cmd or bat or similar.
how do i "run" it ?
i'm on windows 10 but also have ubuntu dual boot so can do it within linux if its easier
i'm sure you're eyes are rolling at such stupidity but a little idiots guide to start would be greatly appreciated.
thanks again

Re: RED Power Led Orbi RBS40v
ignore my windows questions, i used ubuntu in the end, after compiling
however i think it is dead as i get Advertising NMRP server on enp8s0 (my ethernet)...
then it finally ends.. No response after 60 seconds. Bailing out.
so do i assume then this is a brick ?

Re: RED Power Led Orbi RBS40v
tftp can sometimes take a few tries because its sensitive to timing. MIght be worth trying a few times.
If you can't recover it using tftp/nmrpflash, you might indeed have a brick.

Re: RED Power Led Orbi RBS40v
Well thank you all for your help here.
I can't seem to make it work, and I can't be sure I have the required skills at this point to resolve it.
Would anyone be interested in this before I get rid of it. I might stick it on ebay for spares, haven't really decided yet.
But shout if fancy it.
