Rbk50 speed issues
On last black friday, bought RBK50 in this great deal.
It has arrived, but LAN speedtest (and I believe it affect wireless for both Router and Satellite) are not Ok.
I use to get arround 940Mb with simple Asus router.
With Orbi router get arround 600Mb in LAN in the router..
Wifi near Router is arround 500-600Mb (not making any sense).
Router Mode.
Get a DHCP in WAN directly from ISP to orbi router, so no middle box to nlame here.
Latest FW V2.2.1.210
Any ideas?
Almost got a heart attack after buying this expnlensive Mesh.
Thank you

Re: Rbk50 speed issues
What FW is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?
Do a factory reset with the base router. Wire connect a PC to the router and setup from scratch. Do not enable QoS, Traffic Meter and Access controls.
What are the wired speeds tests results with a PC.

Re: Rbk50 speed issues
I got Fiber 1G FTTH , with SFP to Rj45 converter and cat6 cable directly to NG.
Netgear support suggested downgrade version to 2.1.4.16.
Is there a known issue with current one that needs to be downgrade?
Didnt have the chance to just factory default both units.
Thanks

Re: Rbk50 speed issues
Some have said the v210 doesnt' work well with 1Gb speeds...
If you downgrade, please manually install the FW file to the Router only. You don't have to downgrade the satellites. Do a factory reset on the router and setup from scratch and do a wired speed test with a PC.

Re: Rbk50 speed issues
Is there a router in front of the Orbi router? If so,
Modem Combo Units:
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router.
You might try Option #3...
What does the Orbi say thats your model router? Look on the box or on the Routers web page. It's probably a RBR50, if so,

Re: Rbk50 speed issues
Done a downgrade, and WIFI now stabllized.
LAN unfortunatelly still 600~
Tried changing MTU size from 1500-> 1492 -> 1392 , nada.
When MTU was 1392 it even downgraded the LAN link by 40M~, so I upgarded it back up to 1500.
Any more ideas?
Some notes from the WEB GUI for info.

Re: Rbk50 speed issues
It maybe an issue at the ISP modem/router thats not fully giving the Orbi the speed. If your friend is seeing 900Mb on his with his system and modem, then I presume yours should as well, and the modem would need to be looked at. One other user posted having a PACE modem and he said the problem was the ISP hadn't unlocked the modem fully on the LAN port. Once they made a change, he was getting 900Mb on the Orbi. Not sure what exactly they did though.

Re: Rbk50 speed issues
Any chance if you trying your RBR unit at your friends place to see if it works there? Would be telling if it did or didn't. I presume if it didn't, the RBR unit would be at fault.

Re: Rbk50 speed issues
I think this is a technical limitation of the Orbi over wifi. It's not designed for maximum speed to a single device. It's designed to give good speed to multiple devices, even when spread over a large area and connected to the remote satellite, rather than directly to the router.
According to Tom's, ~550 mbps is peak 802.11ac performance for the Orbi at 5 feet (~1.5m).

Re: Rbk50 speed issues
The issue is WIRED- using CAT7 on RBR.
600 tops over CAT7.
The RBR gives great WIFI, RBS is getting 150Mb wireless, odd as well.
I took my unit to other place with 1G over FTTH same issue.
900MB wired is fine for me, and 550Mb wireless is terrific for me (all house).

Re: Rbk50 speed issues
Ya 550Mb is around the max for wifi. Thats good though
So you took the RBR to the friends place and it's still not seeing 900Mb there? If so, then your RBR needs to be reviewed by NG support. I would ask about an RMA. Tell them of your friends system and that you tested yours out on his ISP and let them know of the result differences.

Re: Rbk50 speed issues
LAN to LAN speeds should be if you used a performance tool kit, you should see around 900 Mb. LAN adapters and OSs report differences however should be around max 900Mb calculated speeds.
Performance tooks like iPerf and there is one other i'd have to dig out which meaure actual WAN and LAN performance speed between Network adapter cards and routers.

Re: Rbk50 speed issues
As it seems, more and more point to HW failure.
Hope Amazon will help here for hussle-free replacement, that will hopefully wrap it up.
Contacted several times NG support and they claim for HW failure.
Darn... that sucks.
Hope for a good replacement and hopefully soon, had so much hopes hung on this product.
In addition to the above, I made a succesful down-grade version , but that required some TELNET changed to ensure no-auto update will be made.
After it, sadly, made a factory default to try another fix, but it just auto updated to latest ver of FW.
Now tried to down-grade again and shows like the file is incompatible with router, with RBS the downgrade is fine.
Defently discouraging.
Hope Amazon FR which I bought from will soon to reply my email, I try to contact them since Sunday.

Re: Rbk50 speed issues
A week and half or so, after talked to Amazon and they will arrange a replacement.
Take some time as FR branch got some issue.
With latest FW 2.2.1.210 of RBR50 and RBS50, what results of wired and wireless should I expect?
Wireless is instable just as wired currently, results are like 530Mb, 470Mb, the 570-580Mb wheich is what I know.
580 is very acceptable if is stable.
Which config is known for best when my deployment is FTTH , and got Media converter.
Fiber-> Rj45 and then Cat7 to the Orbi router.
1G internet plan.
Is there any better FW exists for me, or should use latest one to get Maximum Wired and Wireless results.
Any recommensations, or just plug n play?
Wireless , changed CH for max stabillity.
I appreciate your help 🙂
