Rbs50 pulsing white

Hello All

I have an RBR50 and RBS50
Router is at firmware 2.7.3.22
The router is fine but the satellite is pulsing white

I can’t see the satellite in orbi app

I have tried factory reset a bunch of times that didn’t help

I followed the procedure and successfully installed the 2.7.3.22 manually with tftp

I still have the same issue

Pulsating white is driving me crazy

When I power on the satellite it blinks white for about 10 seconds and then transitions to pulsating white

I have tried hitting the sync button on router and satellite same issue

Hope someone can help

Thanks

Re: Rbs50 pulsing white

I finally got my issue resolved

So I was finally able to factory reset both satellite and router

I started with the satellite and used a paper clip instead of a toothpick because it is a little easier to hold in the reset hole while the satellite was powered on.

I held the paper clip in the reset hole for 3 mins then I unplugged the satellite ( usually I just press the power button )

Not sure if unplugging is different then using the power off button.

I continued to hold the reset button in for 2 minutes

I plugged the power cable back in and continueed to hold the reset button in for an additional 3 mins

so basically I held the reset button in for 8 minutes while unplugging/plugging the device in

this allowed the satellite to factory reset.

I was able to verify by connecting a computer via ethernet then ran arp -a from the command prompt to get the satellite ip

I had set my laptop to

IP 192.168.1.10

subnet mask 255.255.255.0

gateway 192.168.1.1

here is what my arp -a looked like

arp -a

Interface: 192.168.1.10 --- 0x18
Internet Address Physical Address Type
192.168.1.1 b0-39-56-96-91-b0 dynamic <-- router

192.168.1.250 b0-39-56-96-83-05 dynamic <-- satellite
224.0.0.2 01-00-5e-00-00-02 static
224.0.0.22 01-00-5e-00-00-16 static
239.255.255.250 01-00-5e-7f-ff-fa static

Once I tried to connect to satellite in a bowser it prompted for factory default credentials (admin/password)

I tried the same procedure witht the router and it wouldn't work until I did

5 mins with reset held in while powered on

2 min power cable unplugged

5 mins powered back on with reset held in

So this time had to hold the reset button in for 12 mins

hand started to get sore after holding the reset in for 12 mins straight.

I had a friend help me to unplug the power cable and plug it back in .

So after all of that I finally had the router and satellite back at the factory defaults.

I setup everything with having the router and satellite plugged in beside the modem

Only had ethernet cable running from modem to WAN port on the router

It was working great even with the wifi back haul to the satellite

Next I plugged in an ethernet cable from the satellite into the router and the back haul changed to ethernet and all was still good.

Next I moved the satellite back to its orginal location and plugged all my wired devices back into satellite.

Then everything broke again.

I plugged a laptop back into the satellite and it said the back haul was connected with wifi and the status was stuck on "config sync"

I noticed that the satellite had an ip address of 192.168.0.107 when it should have a 192.168.1.x address

I found that all of the devices that connected to the satellite had 192.168.0.x addresses

arp -a showing satellite with wrong ip range

arp -a

Interface: 192.168.1.10 --- 0x18
Internet Address Physical Address Type
192.168.0.107 b0-39-56-96-83-05 dynamic  <-- satellite
192.168.1.1 b0-39-56-96-91-b0 dynamic <-- router
192.168.1.14 44-d2-44-5f-25-46 dynamic
192.168.1.255 ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff static
224.0.0.22 01-00-5e-00-00-16 static
224.0.0.251 01-00-5e-00-00-fb static
239.255.255.250 01-00-5e-7f-ff-fa static

I finally figured this issue out that my son had plugged in a wireless router into the basement (TP-Link Archer C7) into one of the ethernet connections in my basement that was back hauled to the satellite.

I unplugged this router and set a static IP reservation in the orbi admin page to 192.168.1.107 for the satellite and then powered the satellite on / off with the power button (only left it off for about 1 min)

Once I powered it back on everything was back online and working as expected.

Thanks everyone for the help on this one.

I am now going to set static IP reservations for all of my wired devices.

Re: Rbs50 pulsing white

Be sure the RBS has updated FW same as whats used on the RBR.

What does the RBR status page say for the RBS? Connected Devices...

Try connecting the RBS via ethernet to the RBR while near or in same room as the RBR.

Re: Rbs50 pulsing white

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have been able to get the satellite back online.  I guess I didn't wait long enough for the firmware to finish updating.  I installed the firmware again with tftp and and just left it with tftp connected and it pulsing white while I went to bed for the night.  In the morning no lights were on and I checked in the app and the satellite can be seen.  I seem to still have issues though.  If i connect to the satellite with wifi the webpages seem to hang.  I use ethernet as the backhaul to the RBR50.  I live in ontario canada and use Rogers ignite as my ISP.  I have tried putting the modem in bridged mode and that doesn't seem to help either.  I wish the logging was better on the orbi so I could see what exactly is happening.

Thanks,

Trevor

Re: Rbs50 pulsing white

Try a full on factory reset on the RBR and RBS and setup from scratch. I'd get the RBR setup first. Than add the RBS one at a time while near or in same room as the RBR. Then place at there remote locations.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

Re: Rbs50 pulsing white

Sorry for the late reply I have been dealing with some other issues and have finally got back this.

My house is 2500 square feet

The router and satellite are about 40 feet apart half between them is an interior concrete block wall.  Wifi is terrible on the other side of this wall and where the satellite is.  Hence the reason I ran ethernet between the router and the satellite.

I tried the voxel firmware on both devices and things didn't improve

I have since re-load netgear firmware 2.7.3.22 onto both devices.

I still have problems with it so I thought I try a factory reset

I tried the normal push the reset button with power on for 15 seconds and that didn't help and the router still had the customer wifi settings I set so I guess this didn't factory reset.

I tried the 30-30-30 factory reset

power is on

hold reset for 30 seconds

keep holding the reset and power off for 30 seconds

keep holding the reset and power on  for 30 seconds

This still did not factory reset my device when it boots up it still has the custom wifi I created for the device.

Is there any other methods to factory reset the devices (both router and satellite) ?

Thanks for your patience

Re: Rbs50 pulsing white

I would try this, bring the RBS to the same room as the RBR. 10-15 feet. Allow the RBS to connect wirelessly.

Does the RBS top ring LED continue to blink WHITE while in the same room as the RBR or does it show BLUE?

If not blue, you might go here and download v104 version of FW for both RBS and RBR.

https://www.netgear.com/support/product/RBK50.aspx#download

Unpack the .zip file. Use a wired PC and Web browser, MS Edge or FireFox. Send the RBS file first to the RBS using the RBSs web page. Then send the RBR FW file to the RBR. I would then disconnect the RBR from the ISP modem/ONT. Use the RBRs web page under Advanced tab/Administration/Backup and select the ERASE button here. Press the reset button on the RBS, when the top ring starts to blink WHITE, turn it OFF.

Setup the RBR from scratch with out it being connected to the ISP modem/ONT. You don't need it connected. I would avoid enabled Armor or Smart Parental controls, or Traffic Meter at this point. Once it's setup. Power it OFF for 1 minute then back ON. When the RBR is ready, power ON the RBS. When it's slowly blinking WHITE, press the sync button on the RBS then on the RBR...hopefully the RBS will sync correctly here and top ring should turn BLUE.

Let us know if you can get to this point.
