Router Firmware Version V2.1.4.10 Brought My LAN to Crawl

Router Firmware Version V2.1.4.10 Brought My LAN to Crawl

I just updated to above stated firmware version. It brought my wired and wireless connection down to a crawl. It's averaging 1.5Mbps on a wired connection and worse on wireless. This morning I authorized a brand new Motorola Surfboard SB6183; I keep one in stock. Hook straight to the modem and get full speed around 20Mbps up and 1.5Mbps down. Any suggestions?

What version of FW was loaded before updating?

Please try a factory reset of the Orbi router and any Satellites and walk thru the set up wizard and set up from scratch.

Sorry, not sure what version of the firmware was on it before today. I can say that I check it at least once per month for updates and install same. I'm thinking it had to be current. I have no issue starting from scratch.

Reset both router and satellite and and set up from scratch. Set up the router first, the add the satellite.

Let us now how it goes.

@dmoyers

which is it?

first you say Hook straight to the modem and get full speed around 20Mbps up and 1.5Mbps down, then after a reset you get

 368Mbps down and 107Mbps up

sounds like a reset gave you more speed...

Have you give us a diagram of your network lay out? ISP Modem Mfr and mode#>Orbi Router>any network switches>etc...

Do you have any network switches in the mix? Please give mfr and model# info.

Several switches in the mix. But, let me clarify. This had worked flawlessly for about a year until upgraded the firmware. The switches don't come into play until after my main desktop. I also hooked a laptop directly to the modern with full speed. Sorry, I don't have time to map my network right now. Buddy getting ready for a trip. Guess the wife and teenage boy will just have to deal with it. Thanks for any input.

Whats the MFr and model of this switch? Just curious.

have you powered down the ISP modem and Orbi system for 1 minute, then power ON the modem and let it sync, then power ON the router and test internet. Don't power ON the satellite just yet.

Was the satellite upgraded as well?

I have gone through the above described power cycle many times with exepction of leaving the satelitte off. I will try this today when the family leaves. All my switches are unmanaged D-Link. Not sure of the model numbers. I have a simple strategy--if it don't move, wire it.

Does the factory reset inside the browser do the same thing as the paperclip method? This sucks bad. Can't even watch YouTube via wired connection on desktop. modem>router>desktop

Yes, does same. If your continuing seeing problems after the FW update, definately do the ERASE from the UI or hold the reset button for 10 seconds until the top LED turns yellowish. Then let go. The router should blink white on and off then slow to a breathing white fade. This means the router is ready to set up. Set up from scratch.

I would set up wifi, manual channels, WPA2 and AES only.

Disable MIMO, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming and IPv6.

Set up manual DNS for 1.1.1.1 and 9.9.9.9 and test.

Leave off the satellite for now and test the router alone.

Re: Router Firmware Version V2.1.4.10 Brought My LAN to Crawl

Ok thanks. I've head a lot issues with wireless before, but never much on the wired side. It either works out it don't. Again, this connection is zooming if connected directly to the modem. But everything on the other side of the the router/switch wired or wireless sucks. I here to just throw money at new mesh or mesh like system but this one was golden until the latest firmware install. Revert back to previous version?

Might help us to have a better idea of how your system is all connected.

I would run some tests with out these in the mix to test. Swap LAN cabling as well.

I'm running wired back haul now and have not seen any issues since...Wondering if there is a problem in switches, cableing or your satellite could be faulty. Seen a few on here reporting bad satellites.

Re: Router Firmware Version V2.1.4.10 Brought My LAN to Crawl

Forget about all the rest of local area network. I have a Motorola SB6183 modem wired to Netgear Orbi RBR50. I isolated everything else and have butt-slow speeds wired and wireless connected this way. I can hook straight to the modem and full speed consistently. Everthing was fine until I intalled the latest firmware. I reset back to factory default settings and reinstalled latest firmware and still slow. I have changed cables throughout and no change. I've hooked two different pc's straight to the router with same results. It has to be the router/switch. I have seen brief periods over the past two days where it reched normal speeds. This system is less than a year old and lives in a good enviroment. More than happy with it up until this point. But with that being said--I can't live this as it is and will be looking at other options.

Re: Router Firmware Version V2.1.4.10 Brought My LAN to Crawl

Only other idea would be to downgrade FW, back to v2.1.3.4 or last known working FW.

If this still fails, I would made contact with @DarrenM and see what he recommends.

Thanks so much. I'm just frustrated at this point. I'm not a network specialist but can get around better than most.

Fully understand.

Give reverting FW a try and let us know.
