Satellite connecting and disconnecting

Hi!  I'm having an issue where one of my Satellite's seems to keep disconnecting and reconnecting.  I have a base router and two satellites.  My house is about 3000 SQ FT but I have 3 to cover the distance and deal with interference.  The odd thing is that it doesn't change to the "weak" signal but it'll just go from no light to magenta or blue light to magenta.  This setup (distance, etc) has worked fine for quite some time so I'm not sure what is going on and the logs are pretty worthless.  You can see in the logs just that the satellite is sending out IP addresses again...not a reason for disconnecting.  I'm on Firmware V2.1.4.10 and no updates are avaliable.

Can someone assist or let me know how to further trouble shoot this?  I work from home and it is quite troublesome.

Re: Satellite connecting and disconnecting

What is the distance between the router and satelite(s)? 30 feet minimum to start. Mines 40 feet in a 5000sq ft home and using only 1 satellite. A router and 1 satellite should be good for 3k sq ft home.

Re: Satellite connecting and disconnecting

Hi - from the router to satellite 1 is approximately 35 feet. From satellite 1 to satellite 2 is hard to determine really because it is the floor above. Maybe 15-20 feet over and 14 feet up. I originally had the one upstairs and the router and added the sat 1 afterward because the service in that room wasn’t very strong.

Even though the house is 3200 square feet, there is a lot of cement (floors, counter tops) and metal throughout....

The issue too is that it worked quite well for a while and has been causing me issues over the past month or so.

I’m kind of at a loss of what to do and the logs aren’t giving me any real hell so I appreciate the help!

Re: Satellite connecting and disconnecting

Do both satellites disconnect or just one?

Yes concrete and metal will impact signal and range. So you may need to move the farthest one a bit closer.

Might try disabling MIMO, Daisy Chaing and Fast Roaming.

Set manual channels on 2.4ghz to 1, 6 or 11 and any unused channel on 5Ghz. Try 48.

Re: Satellite connecting and disconnecting

I haven’t noticed the “Satellite 1” disconnecting (which is downstairs) but I don’t see it as often. Downstairs is the master bedroom. Upstairs is my office and I work from home so I see it in my peripheral vision all of the time and it drops the WI-FI briefly on my work PC which is impactful.

The challenge I have with moving it is that I have two devices hardwired into the satellite upstairs.

Is there no access to any more advanced logs? Even through a CLI or something?

I had everything working fine for quite some time and this arose over the past month so I’m fairly certain it is a firmware situation or similar. This is why I am weary of making some of the proposed changes...

I’m also considering swapping sat1 and sat2 to see if that does anything...

Re: Satellite connecting and disconnecting

Try that. Also try a factory reset and set up from scratch as well...

Disable the advanced wifi features and try some manual channels as well.
