MacOS -by default- does not support telnet any longer through terminal (since MacOS Mojave, I think).
What have you installed to get telnet to work? I gues the issue is there, unless you're using an older MacOS
Here is how I got telnet to work on my Macbook: http://osxdaily.com/2018/07/18/get-telnet-macos/

I'm aware I have installed telnet (a while back and even updated it to see if thst was the issue), Tried it with telnet, netcat, even went to windows on virtualbox. No dice always the same issue, I can log in but every command is not found.

Does other commands work?
Try help or any other commands like: cd, chdir pwd, .......
Also, does the command "configure" work?

cd, chdir, ls, ifcongif, find, pwd, grep, and set seem to work. Config, get, and configure generate "bin/ash command:comand not found"
