I have managed to install Orbi in the house and wifi is working fine. However I am not getting my emails through Gmail. There is lots of technical speak about this but can someone please point me in the right direction to fix this (as an amateur) . All my family use Gmail so I will be sending the Orbi system back to Amazon if I do not get a fix for this today.
I'll have to keep watching this forum AS I CANNOT READ MY EMAILS!

I appear to have fixed the problem but don't ask me how. Everyne seemed to be suggesting I was have a dns problem. So I changed one of the dns switches in the Orbi app and suddenlt everything is working again including Gmail.
My thanks goes out to eveyone who took the time to respond to my issue and point me in the right direction. I don't understand any of these issues any better than before but it was the multiple suggestions regarding dns issues that made me look at my profiles and change the dns settings.
Thank you all. Without you I would have sent back the Orbi system to Amazon (to my/our detriment!).

Re: Using Gmail with an Orbi setup
And also tell us how your Orbi is connected to the internet? Is it in router mode or AP mode.

Re: Using Gmail with an Orbi setup
Hi Orbiman
It's worse than trying to get to the site for Gmail, I can't even get Gmail on my iPhone or any other app that is getting wifi from the Orbi. That includes Outlook on Windows 10.
The Orbi is is acting as my router (I used it to replace the Tilgin router supplied by our broadband supplier.
It just seems as if Gmail is ythe only problem we are having but it is all our email addesses that are effected.
Many thanks
Sean

Re: Using Gmail with an Orbi setup
You have a strange problem. It could be related to the router's MTU size. Are you on a PPOE connection, or using some kind of VPN?
To check, try pinging using different packet sizes and the "do not fragment" bit set. It's the same test you just did with a couple options added.
See this: https://kb.netgear.com/19863/Ping-Test-to-determine-Optimal-MTU-Size-on-Router

Re: Using Gmail with an Orbi setup
I tried but it didn't like the -f so I tried without and got the following
Seans-iMac-38438:~ seancreavy$ ping www.yahoo.com -f -i 1492
ping: -f flag: Operation not permitted
Seans-iMac-38438:~ seancreavy$
Seans-iMac-38438:~ seancreavy$ ping www.yahoo.com -i 1492
PING atsv2-fp.wg1.b.yahoo.com (46.228.47.115): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 46.228.47.115: icmp_seq=0 ttl=55 time=24.171 ms

Re: Using Gmail with an Orbi setup
It is given me some options. Which should I use instead of -f and -i?
Seans-iMac-38438:~ seancreavy$ ping yahoo.com 1492
usage: ping [-AaDdfnoQqRrv] [-c count] [-G sweepmaxsize]
[-g sweepminsize] [-h sweepincrsize] [-i wait]
[-l preload] [-M mask | time] [-m ttl] [-p pattern]
[-S src_addr] [-s packetsize] [-t timeout][-W waittime]
[-z tos] host
ping [-AaDdfLnoQqRrv] [-c count] [-I iface] [-i wait]
[-l preload] [-M mask | time] [-m ttl] [-p pattern] [-S src_addr]
[-s packetsize] [-T ttl] [-t timeout] [-W waittime]
[-z tos] mcast-group
Apple specific options (to be specified before mcast-group or host like all options)
-b boundif # bind the socket to the interface
-k traffic_class # set traffic class socket option
-K net_service_type # set traffic class socket options
-apple-connect # call connect(2) in the socket
-apple-time # display current time

Re: Using Gmail with an Orbi setup
The commands differ between OS. The link I posted was for Windows.
Also, because your issue is only with specific sites, you must ping the website or server you are having trouble with. It looks like you were pinging yahoo or something in the last test.

Re: Using Gmail with an Orbi setup
Run it on Windows if you can.
And, it's -l 1492 not -i 1492. That's a lowercase L! -i does something totally different.

Re: Using Gmail with an Orbi setup
Many thanks. I'll run it on the one Windows PC we have got in the house (my wiife's using it to shop at the moment - if only it was was that part of the wifi that wasn't working instead of the email systems!)

LOL! A router that limits the wife's shopping. That would be a big seller!

Re: Using Gmail with an Orbi setup
See this link where a user had the same problem. The solution was, "I reduced the MTU of the router to 1442, and now I can can access all sites."
I'm not saying this is definitely the OP's problem, just that it could be.

Re: Using Gmail with an Orbi setup
Hi OrbiMan
How can I find out if I have accidently blocked the site with software or dns?
Sorry I'm a complete amateur so this sort of question is beyond me. I quite agree with you that I may have accidently switched something on or off without knowing what I was doing.
Kind regards
Sean

146.112.61.106 is the address for hit-adult.opendns.com. Are you using OpenDNS domain filtering? You may have blocked access to gmail with it.
