orbi RSR10 with wired router

I have an Orbi 10 (RBR10) mesh router and one satellite. I am using the ISP provided modem that contains a wireless router BUT the wireless part of the router is disabled. I have wired devices like NAS connected to the router ports as well that I need to access wirelessly. The Orbi internet port is connected to the wired router and works great. Since the NAS is wired to the router on a different IP gateway from the Orbi, and has a DNS server, not sure I should set all wired connections with a fixed IP address then turn off the DNS in the router to avoid having the ORBI and router DNS conflict. I would like to WIRELESS access to the NAS

Advice please

Re: orbi RSR10 with wired router

This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

Re: orbi RSR10 with wired router

Thanks very much. I think this is the info I needed. Im on my own I think with the ISP. They aren’t interested in any config outside of their “plug and play” scenario. I disabled the wireless part of the router in the modem before setting up the Orbi and will keep it that way. I may have to operate the Orbi as AP mode since I cannot access the cable router even using a direct connection, odd as this appears.
The cable router had its gateway/DNS set to 192.168.1.1 but during the troubleshooting , I reset it to default which is apparently the same DNS gateway of the Orbi. No matter what I try, I cannot establish a connection the the cable router. I even disconnected the Orbi , restarted the PC and the cable router, no joy. I only have one older netbook that has an Ethernet port, the other laptops are WiFi only. Turning on the WiFi in the cable router requires the ISP to do this because they charge $5/mo extra if you enable wireless. Capitalistic greed for every cent! So, even though I’m limited to one combination not the others. I do appreciate your offering that solution.
