orbi rbk50 problems since firmware upgrade
1. I am new to ORBI
2. I purchased RBK50 Router PLUS Satelitte together in mid April 2020
3. I connected my Orbi into my BTBroadband Router
4. Orbi was working lovely for one week
5. So impressed I then purchased RBS50Y Outoddr Satellite
6. It was working lovely for a further week
7. About 10 days ago the Orbi app sent me a message to upgarde firmware
8. I did what the app said and pressed Yes
9. Since then the Orbi App shows No Sateliites on the Network Map and
10. the Orbi App show shows RBS50 and RBS50Y as separate Devices that are Unknown networks with Unknown Connection Trype and with very poor Internet Access signal
11. I have tried reset on each satelitte
12 I have tried contact Netgear Suppor via "chat" and phone. That is a total waste of time
13. I am a simple soul not used to tecchy wizardy or jargon so if someone can help I'll be most grateful / appreciative from a distance
14. I want to be able to love my Orbi but at this moment I am very disappointed and I have learned NEVER to respond to firmward update message via the App
15 I beg for some insightful help
Thank You in anticipation

Re: orbi rbk50 problems since firmware upgrade
Do not use the Orbi app to update FW. Others have reported problems usng Orbi App. Preferred method is to use a wired PC and web browser and download FW files for the RBS and RBR. Updating the RBS first then the RBR lastly.
Use NG support page and input the mode number of the RBR or RBK50 kit and RBS50Y to download the FW files for each:
https://www.netgear.com/support/
For modems with built in routers, This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

Re: orbi rbk50 problems since firmware upgrade
I shall attempt this later today
I think I’m right in saying that I do not use Orbi as a modem but only as a Router

Re: orbi rbk50 problems since firmware upgrade
Orbi can't be used as a modem since it doesn't have a modem built in.
Your BT modem is your modem however it already has a built in router. Why I included suggestions for configuring it with your Orbi.
