Perhaps I misunderstand. Changing the router password is simple, once you get connected to the router. Sounds to me like (a) the router is not accepting the password that you sincerely believe is correct, and is being entered correctly, and (b) after three rejections, the Password Recovery process is not successful.
In that case, the only way to access the router and do anything useful is to perform a Factory Reset.
