AX4200 latency and dropouts

Hi,

I just purchased the AX4200, I opted for the router with 2 satellites to blanket the house in WiFi. It was an upgrade from the older/slower RBK20 model that was having the same issue!

So what's the issue? I get periods of the day where the WiFi is great, rock solid and as quick as I can expect it to be, and then periods where I get dropouts and high latency...probably the other way around actually...

I know it's not my NBN (I'm in Australia and NBN is our national fibre optic network that delivers broadband services) as I ran a continuous ping from my laptop to the router and another from the laptop to an external DNS service (I chose 8.8.8.8). Latency and dropouts were consistent for both pins telling me that the path back to the router was the issue. Also I can see nop dropouts on the broadband service.

My question is how do I either monitor the connection between satellites and router or look at logs that might point me in the right direction as to what is impacting the network?

The devices are all up to date on firmware (V4.6.9.11_2.3.5). I have tried various channels for the WiFi in an attempt to avoid interference, used a WiFi analyser to pick a quieter channel but that really only impacts the WiFi to the device not the link between the mesh nodes/devices.

Hoping someone can help.

Thanks
Andrew

What device sits between you and the Internet? A modem? ONT?

Sadly, all that NBN tells us is that you are in Australia. NBN comes in many flavours.

The NBK752, if that is what you own – there are several AX4200 devuces – is a  WiFi 6 Mesh router.

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Orbi WiFi 6 (AX) and WiFi 6E (AXE) - NETGEAR Communities

Those things are very different from the standard Netgear routers covered in this section.

You might like to search there for messages related to your problem.

I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

Check for various troubleshooting tips.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.
