Cant contact support without paying for a support agreement

Cant contact support without paying for a support agreement. This is after Netgear bricked my system with an automatic update.  They are suggesting this community where they apparently are not present.

I feel your pain because you're not even close to being alone on this. Continued to have internet, but was unable to access router. Only way our was a factory reset. Got this from Netgear!

Thanks for sharing, but if the solution is to start all over again it is not really a solution. I have 60+ devices with assigned IP and other setup. It will take me 2-3 hours to do this setup again and it is not the first time this has happened.

One item that helps save time if a reset is needed is backup configurations to file.

Looks like you are one of the customers facing an awkward situation:

  • Do without access to the Orbi system until (if?) Netgear remedies the situation automatically.  They were able to force the defective firmware on these routers.  Presuming that the update mechanism continues to work, they should be able to force new firmware that works.  The question is how long it will take to understand what caused the problem, come up with a fix, test the fix to make sure it doesn't do something worse, and roll it out.
  • Bite the bullet with a factory reset, reconfigure, and force yourself to save the configuration file every time a change is made to it.  (My downfall. I get complacent and suddenly realize my configuration backup is months old.)

Mine were mostly unassigned so went much smoother. I feel your pain. Netgear may feel the pain down the road???

Re: Cant contact support without paying for a support agreement

What a crappy experience, and I'm not alone it seems!  I have the same issue, I'm a software engineer, it's clear to me this is a problem with the product, the KB article(s) shared on this thread do not acknowledge that there is a problem. I've disconnected all the cables from the router and connected the laptop to router directly through a network cable. Also unplugged from power all satellites. I can successfully ping 192.168.1.1. When trying to connect to  http://192.168.1.1/login I get an "192.168.1.1 refused to connect." . Also tried 'curl http://192.168.1.1/' command and I get a 'Connection refused' error back.  If I connect the router to the Internet, I can actually browse the internet without problems, but I cannot connect to the admin interface. I can connect to the admin interface of the satellites if I plug them in. I hope this is a bricked firmware and not something worse like a security issue.

Apparently a factory reset is the only option. PIA, but it was the only thing that worked for me.

Be sure you have a backup config saved to file.
