New Comcast Router: Need to reinstall Netgear Orbis?

Our Netgear Orbi Wi-Fi mesh network is attached to an older Comcast Router.  Our condo has upgraded to the new XB7 Comcast Router.

Can I simply reattach the Orbis to the new router or do they require a factor reset and reinstallation?

Thanks in advance.

Re: New Comcast Router: Need to reinstall Netgear Orbis?

If you power OFF both ISP Modem and ORbi router, then back ON after connecting them together, should work, However, if your ISP modem has a built in router already, This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

Re: New Comcast Router: Need to reinstall Netgear Orbis?

Thanks for your very detailed answer.

When I arrived home last night, Comcast had already cut service to my old router and the new one was shipped earlier that day.  I retained my old settings, installed the router and everything is working seamlessly.

However, I do have a double router situation with SSIDs from both the Comcast router and the Orbis.  From what I have read, it looks like the only real advantage to a single access point (the Orbi) is for gaming and other more esoteric problems.  I also am concerned that I could mess things up by switching to AP mode.

My real question concerns speed.  Is using AP mode faster than using the Netgear in router mode?

Thanks in advance.

AP and router mode are about the same. However, with less the RBR has to do in AP mode, the better. Less processing in AP mode than router mode.
