RBK853 - Satellites drop Internet connection

Hi all,

we have a RBK853 package and since initial installation we have the problem that the Internet connection is dropped multiple times during the day from all 2 satellites. Totally annoying when you have to work from home with stable WiFi. We have tried almost any possible channel settings and the Orbi is running in AP mode only.

If anybody has any suggestion how to solve this, that would be much appreciated!

In touch with NG support since 4 weeks to no avail so far.

Many thanks,

Mike

Re: RBK853 - Satellites drop Internet connection

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz. Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Has a full power OFF of the RBR and RBS been perfomed since last FW update?

Try disabling AX mode on the RBR for 2.4Ghz...

Re: RBK853 - Satellites drop Internet connection

Hi there,

thank you for your quick reply.

Firmware is V4.6.3.16_2.0.51

The modem is a Telstra Smart modem, we previously had an Orbi RBR50 plus 2 Satellites RBS50 working fine on the same setup.

Home is a 2 story 300 sm single dwelling.

When connected both Satellites show blue colour indicating they successfully synced and the connection between the router and satellite is good.

Currently using channel 5 (2.4 GH) and 36 (5 GH).

2 Wifi neighbours at least 15 m away.

Yes full power off and hard reset has been performed multiple times.

ok will now try disabling AX mode for 2.4 GH.

Is there a model # for the Telstra Smart modem?

Re: RBK853 - Satellites drop Internet connection

Sorry dont have a model number for the Telstra Smart Modem.

Seems like disabling AX mode for 2.4 GH has been a positive impact so far and drop outs have reduced considerably.

Our Internet comes into the house in kind of the middle of the ground floor. We tried putting one Satellite in the far corner room of the house (more than 10 m away) but it always showed poor backhaul status in the Orbi Web interface even though the LED light was blue upon connection to the RBR850. Now it's maybe 5 m away but two walls inbetween, backhaul status is now showing as good. The other Satellite is upstairs more than 10m away also showing backhaul status as good. Once we have solved the drop outs I will try and put the Satellite downstairs back into the far room.
