RBR850 bad ping

Hello

 

I just got an RBR850 with one router and one satellite.

 

The bandwidth is far more better than the previous TP-Link I got except for the ping time.

RBR850 router is at the same place than the TP-Link and with the TP-Link I got a 2ms ping no matter where I test in the flat.

With RBR850 it is a 15ms ping !

And more the ping ms when I ping the RBS850 satellite which is in the same room, the ping ms is 15ms and sometimes, every 6/8 ping, ping is 170ms !!

 

I search a lot in the forum and Internet but sadly didn't find any solution to correct this.

It seems that a lot of people have bad ping with Orbi system.
I try everything I could like last FW, factor reset and so on, but ping is always bad.
On the router itself ping is 0ms so it is a Orbi WIFI issue for sure.

 

Again, bandwidth is far more better than the TP-Link, solving the bad ping ms will be cherry on the cake.

 

Could you please check this issue ?

What are you pinging? The RBR itselt? Ping the ISP modem thru the RBR? Pinging the RBR to the RBS? RBS to the RBR? 

How are you pinging? Wireless or wired connection? Wired connection is preferred. 

CAT6 LAN cable is recommended. 

Show a screen capture of what your seeing here in a post. 

 

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Last FW on RBR and RBS : V4.6.3.16_2.0.51

with factory reset after upgrade

 

This tests with a MacBook but tests with Raspberry Pi or PC are the same.

RBR ping (from the room with RBS) :

ISP router from the same room RBS :

ISP router is a french LiveBox with fiber 2*1 Gbps

test speed from RBR which is cable cat6 connected :

937.36 Mbps - 604.23 Mbps

 

Tests from a Raspberry connected to the LiveBox :

ping 0ms Download : 937 Mbps Upload : 598 Mbps

 

Again, 1/2 ms ping with same tests with TP-Link but bad bandwidth with TP-Link

How are you pinging? Wireless or wired connection? Wired connection is preferred.

WHat are you wired pings from the PC to the RBR with ALL RBS turned OFF? 

What are your wirelesss pings from the PC to the RBR with ALL RBS turned OFF?

It would be helpful to know what model of TP-Link was replaced by the Orbi 850.

Was it a single WiFi router, and all devices were connected to it?

Or, was it a 'mesh' system with some devices connected to the base and some to the other unit?

yes indeed.

 

It was a simple router with all device connected on it, an AX3000 or Archer AX55.

 

RBR852 is very good, if I found how to correct the ping issue and how to change the 5 GHz channel to 52 where no neighbor is, it would be perfect !

 

New tests, ping RBR850 from wireless :

Ping on a system that uses two access points (router & satellite) will never be as fast as ping on a single access point.

That said, these results appear to give the impression of a LOT of WiFi interference.

 

On the second point, this cannot be done . Depending on country, Orbis are set to specific 5G WiFi channels (one 80Mhz frequency band for user devices and a separate 80Mhz band for backhaul). This is not a setting that the user can change.

This may be a result of the way the FCC regulates different frequencies.

Channel 52, for example, is one of the frequencies called DFS/TCP in the United States and Canada. See:

Didn't know that, I will search why

 

Too bad for channel 52 which is allowed in France

Former Apple Airport Wifi allow to choose DFS and stick to canal 52 when there is somebody else from 36 to 48...

TP-Link router also allowed to choose 52
