RBR850 restart several times a day

RBR850 restart several times a day

Since around 2 weeks I have the issue that my RBR850 is rebooting (white pulsing) automatically several times a day which is pretty annoying. Sometimes even several times in an hour.

I already installed the latest version V3.2.18.1_1.4.14 but that didn't change anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: RBR850 restart several times a day

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Is the Orbi system operating in Router or AP mode?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Traffic Meter, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set CTS to 2347. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s). Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

One User Experience/Configuration:
https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-AX/RBK753S-update-Rock-solid-in-terms-of-speed-and-stability-s...

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and Orbi system been performed since last update?

Re: RBR850 restart several times a day

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too? It's a direct cable connect, no modem.
Is the Orbi system operating in Router or AP mode? Router mode

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft? 240 m² (not sure how this could effect an automatic restart, especially as it worked for several months)
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. It's a wired connection

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz. 11 on 2.4 and 36 on 5 Ghz
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many? Yes, 5

Just to be clear I don't have a WiFI issue, the RBR850 is pulsing white, turns off the WiFi (until the pulsing stops) and is also not reachable via a wired PC during that time.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and Orbi system been performed since last update? There is no ISP modem.

So is the RBS directly wired to the RBR?

There is no ISP modem. Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with Orbi system been performed since last update? Might try a factory reset on the RBR as well if the power OFF doesn't change it.

Yes

Yes that has been made. Is there a recommended way to restore the configuration after a factory reset? Due to the amount of connected devices and their connection to each other a reset without resotring the configuration is not a viable solution in production.

30 feet is too far....keep an eye on the sat ring...the color will guide

As mentioned already in the beginning the color is pulsing white. The satellite has a wired connection.

Re: RBR850 restart several times a day

As long as you set up the same SSID name and PW, your wireless devices will connect after a reset.

or you can make a back up configuration before doing the reset then after resetting, load the configuration file. I would be recommended to test the system first before loading the saved configuration from file.

Reason for asking the distance between the RBR and RBS is to check to see if there TOO close. Too close between the RBR and RBS can cause problems, wireless OR wired. 30 feet is NOT too far. Understand the Orbi signals are powerful and cover a good distance. 30 feet is a good staerting point for RBS placelment. Depending upon building materials can impact this or not. Signals between the RBR and RBS have a sweet spot in each home. You'll need to find this.

Good Luck.

Re: RBR850 restart several times a day

Seriously, trying a factory reset in a business production environment without resetting the configuration is not a viable option. Of course the devices will reconnect, but we rely on a lot of fixed ip assignments and port forwarding.

I know what the LED signals mean, but that doesn't help me as long as the same issue occurs over and over again. Based on the link the RBR is appliyng a new configuration, which doesn't make any sense if it happens multiple times a day.

Re: RBR850 restart several times a day

Well a reset would need to be tried. Back up configuration files save time after resets.

If not something to contact NG support about for additional help and information. Possible the RBR is faulty.

The Orbi 850 is a home class system. Not really meant for Business environments. Orbi Pro the the line designed for Business environments.

Re: RBR850 restart several times a day

Unfortunately, the support can't be contacted as the device is older than 90 days. Kind of ridiculous if you consider the price of the device.

Done on Thursday. Looking forward to your reply as it seems to be getting worse. Right now it's doing the reboot thing since 2 hours in a row every 5 minutes.
