Can the IoT network be named the same as the main wifi, to allow all devices to connect seamlessly??

I can not get the app to allow me to move forward after naming the same as Wifi SSID.

It tells me the name is already in use, is there a work-around or is this a straight conflict?

Don't want to have to reset 16 devices.

Thank you,

Dominic

What do you mean by IoT network? The idea of IoT is to connect all devices to your "main wifi".

What tells you that "the name is already in use"?

Don't start by looking for a "solution" to an imaginary problem. Start by explaining what you are doing and where things go wrong.

Give us a description that would let us repeat the process and reproduce the errors.

I suspect that you are having difficulties with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wifi. Some IoT stuff is badly designed, which frustrates attempts to set them up. But that is just a guess. So what's the problem?

The RBRE960 is a Mesh router. While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Orbi WiFi 6 (AX) and WiFi 6E (AXE) - NETGEAR Communities

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

Check for various troubleshooting tips.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

The IOT SSID network has to be different.

In short, the IoT network is just a secondary SSID but all your devices can connect seamlessly and talk to each other regardless of which SSID they connect to.

The IoT network is a special, separate radio offered by the RBKE963 system.  There would be no benefit to the IoT network broadcasting the same SSID as the main radio.  By having IoT as a separate radio you can change wireless settings just for that SSID.  For example:

  1. Disable 5G so those pesky IoT devices whose setup apps get confused when your mesh SSID is shared between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.
  2. Use a different wireless security setting for better backwards compatibility with older wireless devices, e.g., WPA-PSK [TKIP].

Even though the IoT SSID is different from the main SSID, all devices connected via either SSID to your Orbi system can talk to each other and will share the same IP range.  So you are not required that all your IoT devices talk to the IoT SSID instead of your main SSID.  I use it as a backup SSID for any older wireless devices that for some reason can't connect using the main SSID.  Yes, some of these troublesome devices are IoT but many of my other IoT devices connect just fine to the main SSID.
