Starlink rectangle dish with a Ethernet adapter works with earlier Orbi products

Any luck with this? My Starlink rectangle dish with a Ethernet adapter works with earlier Orbi products, but not the 960. Should I return the 960’s or is there a solution?

What newer Orbi’s work with Starlink?

Something I got from NG support. Would be interesting to know if the suggestion worked.

Re: Starlink rectangle dish with a Ethernet adapter works with earlier Orbi products

I would contact StarLink and see if there modems are compatible with external routers.

Ask if there is any special configurations, i.e. DHCP or PPPoE or VLAN configurations that are needed.

For ISP modems with built in routers:

https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

Thanks for the accurate GENERAL info.  What I need is specific help with Starlink.  Starlink is not able to be configured in the way you have suggested.

Something that ISP needs to work on then.

Try option #2 suggestion...

Try AP mode on the 9 series?

Re: Starlink rectangle dish with a Ethernet adapter works with earlier Orbi products

Ok, NG has said that since this is a StarLink issue, try setting a static route on the RBR for 192.168.100.1

Also need to ensure that the ip address for the Starlink is not on the same network as their other devices. Since the Starlink address will not change then in some cases they will need to change the third octet of their current dhcp server.

Let us know if this works.

Re: Starlink rectangle dish with a Ethernet adapter works with earlier Orbi products

I boxed the unit for a return (having 8 hours into this is enough).  I unboxed and tried the static IP.  No luck.  Returning to Netgear.  Bummer it does not support Starlink, since its older Orbi's work great.

I am back to my Orbi RBR20 and Starlink which works great, with no special set-up.

This is a Netgear issue. I will look for a different brand because I need better company support (this forum has been helpful, not the company) and it should be easer.

Would have been nice to know if the suggestion had worked.

Good Luck.

Could you be more specific about how the 960 "does not work" with Starlink?

These folks seem fairly pleased with the Starlink Ethernet adapter:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBd7QmzPRGs  They promise other videos discussing Bypass mode.

There's a article about setting up Asus routers for Bypass mode with Starlink:

Re: Starlink rectangle dish with a Ethernet adapter works with earlier Orbi products

Sure.  I am using the Starlink ethernet adapter for the rectangle dish (V2) - works fine -n both regular Starlink with WiFi on and in and in bypass mode with the Starlink WiFi off.

The same Starlink ethernet adapter works fine with Orbi RBR20 - in both regular Starlink with WiFi on and in and in bypass mode with the Starlink WiFi off.

The 960 does not get internet access from Starlink, in any configuration I have tried.  That's what I mean by "does not work".

BTY, I tried using the same Orbi 960 with my ViaSat modem, and that worked well.  The 960 refuses to see any internet from Starlink V2.

Bummer.  Having long since passed my 90 days of "complimentary support" (by over five years), I like to hear about the experiences of customers who are able to contact Netgear support.

Re: Starlink rectangle dish with a Ethernet adapter works with earlier Orbi products

It’s a stupid hack - but one that Netgear had me try when I first got my 960 last Nov with AT&T.

I put a 4 port switch in between the starlink router and the Orbi 960 router.     Boom.  All of a sudden it sees the internet.

Worked 8 months ago with AT&T -   Then netgear sent me beta code to install and I was able to remove the switch -  now that I switch to Starlink I saw the same thing. - so putting the switch back solved my issue.

I would Ike to now put the starlink in bypass mode and eliminate the double NAT - but for now everything is working and I don’t want to mess it up.,
