Using Orbi AX4200 with BT FTTP
I've recently upgraded to BT FTTP and now have an Openreach ONT (Nokia version). I'm thinking of getting the Orbi AX4200 mesh system as the BT Smarthub 2 is even worse that the original Smarthub. I'm wondering if anyone knows if I'll be able to connect the Orbi router directly to the ONT and fully ditch the Smarthub or will I need to keep the Samrthub in the system?
From what I've been reading I'm hoping I can conect the Orbi router directly to the ONT and just use PPPOE to enable access.

Re: Using Orbi AX4200 with BT FTTP
What is the model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT or HomeHub the NG router would be connected too? If there is a built in router at the ONT or modem, Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

Re: Using Orbi AX4200 with BT FTTP
Thanks Furry. It's a Nokia made fibre ONT only. No router in it, just modem type function.

Re: Using Orbi AX4200 with BT FTTP
I'd ask the ISP to see if the RBR can replace there router after the ONT. I presume it could.

Re: Using Orbi AX4200 with BT FTTP
So I've ordered the RBK753 and read somewhere that during initial setup, it's better to have the satalite units in the same room as the router unit and only place them where they'll stay after they've been recogognised and linked to the base unit. Is that the case?

Re: Using Orbi AX4200 with BT FTTP
Yes, I prefer having the RBS near the RBR or in same room. Once they are fully synced and setup, then you can place them in there remote locations.
30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

Thanks for confirming. Just for future ref, I'm guess RBS means the satalite and RBR refers to the router unit?

So I've got the delivery due today for a RBK753 but I suspect I'll only need one of the satalites for the time being. Is it better to just set up one at the inital setup and add the extra one in the future when I need it or should i set up both satalites and then just pack one away?

Only if placement and distance isn't right or house size is too small.

Yes. 30 feet seems to be a starting point for distance. Adjust from there. Can be more as well.

Yes. Clocked that. Just wanted to check if there was a warning of some kind if it was too close. The lights change if it's too far away.
